V-Tom and I were talking after the ride on the 20th. We were thinking that, maybe, next year we should try and give the ride a purpose.

We thought it might be an idea to try and generate some charitable funding for a worthy cause. No, not the "Farkles for Heavy Fund", although that is a worthy cause, something like the Canadian Cancer Society, or similar.

What do you think?

Count me in for the Cancer Society. I'm sure every one of us has lost someone we love to this terrible disease.

That is a nice idea. My suggestion would be, since this motorcycling thing is all about getting out there and meeting people, how about finding a local charity in the area that we are riding? (food bank, shelter, boys and girls club something like that) We could stop by and hand them and envelope full of cash. It would be a great way to give back directly to the community we're riding in. I'd throw a $20 into something like that, It doesn't have to be official and I could care less about a income tax receipt.

The idea of giving to a local charity would be good...if everyone was from that area. The Canadian Cancer Society would be a great choice as I've had a family member die from cancer.

I'd come out for a Strom ride and throw some money in the hat.

$40 bucks, get a "2009 - Ontario Strompede to Stop Cancer" t-shirt and give the rest to charity. See if Suzuki Canada would throw in a few prizes (hats, hoodies, swag) and turn the ride into a poker run.

My $0.02

The ride does have a purpose: To ride Vstroms and meet nice people.
It was a well planned tour that we all enjoyed. Don't mess with a good thing. We don't need an excuse to enjoy riding or touring in areas as beautiful as the Muskoka district. I'm sure that we all give to our favourite charity in our own way.

Good point 568V8.

I mulled it over for some time before I started this thread. Maybe we're all better off keeping it a good ride with friends and then, once back at home, making a contribution to whatever society or charity we please and consider it "payment" for our day.

Now that I think about it.
I also agree with 568v8. There are charity rides out that we can go on if we choose to.

All good points brought up!

The most important thing would always be to kick off the riding year and meet lots of other Strommers. I wouldn't want anything to get in the way of that and I wouldn't want riders to start feeling obligated to give.

Still, if there is a way to do some good without anyone feeling any pressure it might be something to consider.

I think next years third annual Ontario Spring Strom Ride will be Sunday, April 26th, 2009. I am told it will be great weather that day although the week leading up to it will have everyone concerned.

More in the future...

..Tom

Date is actually Sunday, April 26th!!!!
