I need to blow off some steam on my insurance rates. I was under the impression a 650CC was cheap to insure.

I am 54 yrs of age. M license since July of 1976. 38 years. No accidents

1,000,000 Liability / Comp with a $300.00 Deductible
CAA is my broker and holds my Truck and Car insurance
My 06 Dodge Ram costs me less than my Vstrom at $668.00

2008 $1,022.00
2009 $ 837.00
2010 $ 740.00
2011 $ 766.00
2012 $ 761.00
2013 $ 811.00
2014 $ 911.00

A $100.00 jump from last season. This is with INTACT Insurance. Is anyone similar and paying less in Ontario?

I just went through this "fun"... I'm 40, and have not had bike insurance in 19 years. I went with TD @ $677/yr for a '13 Wee. 1m liability, 1k ded on collision and $500 on all perils comprehensive plus accident forgiveness.

Intact gave me a quote for about $800, and State Farm (whom I've been with for 25 years with no claims for my car) was $950.

I'm also with Intact - formerly through Jevco.

I am 40 yrs of age. M license since July of 2008. G license for 24 years. 1 at fault collision (wrote off previous bike in 2012), no tickets since 2008.

All Perils + 1,000,000 Liability / with a $300.00 Deductible
Cornerstone is my broker and I have no other insurance with them
August is my renewal and I'm hoping it goes down a bit more.

2009 $ 868
2010 $ 863
2011 $ 845
2012 $ 1870 (accident + new bike+ increased coverage)
2013 $ 1130
2014 $ ?

For your insurance to have risen $150 in 2 years seems a bit much.

Rates do seem a bit high (at least compared to Alberta). I dropped everything but PL and PD on my 2009 V last year and am now paying $122. I think in 2009 I paid a little over $600 for full coverage with $1000 deductible. I do know rates are extremely high in BC (probably government insurance?)

You are pretty good. I'm 54. Motorcycle licence for 7-8 years. Last year was just over $700. This year over $900 with Intac. Small ofence in the record. It's creasy. Guys in New York or London, UK paying $120-150...

Thanks for the info. Makes me feel a little better. NOT

I will gat a quote from TD and see if I can get under $700.00

I might also see about going with just PL & PD.

If I can drop the insurance rates I can add another few bike to the quiver.

I NEED!!! a dual sport and an observed Trials bike. Then I will be COMPLETE

Farkles do not count. They are a constant universal law.

I used a web-based broker search to get the lowest quote (Compare Motorcycle Insurance Quotes Online - Insurance Hotline). Funny thing is I originally tried Riders Plus but they came in at $1600 whereas the search gave me a KTX which put me through Intact for $1249. When I called Rider's Plus directly they couldn't do anything to come close on price but a friend of mine went through Riders Plus and now is insured through Intact.

That said, it high depends on where you'd bike is garaged. The difference between insuring my bike in my private, locked garaged condo in Toronto and up north of the city is a difference of $600/yr.

With my truck my insurance it went up $300 last year so I call my insurance company on it and was told it was because of the rise of theft in my postal code which I thought was funny since I'm in a brand new postal code that is dedicated to my one condo building - every single person's vehicle in the postal code is protected but 24x7 security with keyed entry and video cameras. I told them that and there was a pause.....then the agent just said "well, rates go up every year, that's how it is".

I am with Primmum, which I think is a part of TD and pay about half of what I was paying with State Farm! Have life, house, car, truck and atv with State farm and thought it would be much less (over a thousand!). Less than 600 with Primmum! Get an online price! Its free!:hurray:

The Personal

I'm with The Personal and pay less then $400. Mind you, they are not open to the public. Thankfully the company I work for uses them. And I know government workers can insure with them as well.

Anyone can access The Personal Insurance by joining an organization that uses them, to gain their group rates.

I belong to COPA (Canadian Owners and Pilots Association) and members get the group rates from The Personal. Membership costs $60 a year.
My insurance rate for the 650 VStrom is $669...female, 53, 30 year license with no tickets/accidents in Sarnia area.

You don't need to be a pilot to join COPA. Just sayin'...

50, male, m since I was 16, but just started riding again after a 25 year hiatus. 5 years back in the saddle, TD, $465/year, I have 2 cars, trailer, house and contents with them as well. I saved $1100/year total going with them. State Farm had a sign out last year that they had the cheapest MC insurance... uoted me $1100 for the bike.. I told them they better take the sign down...LOL If I had never bought insurance I would be ahead so far I could retire now! Just like seat belts... never needed them yet! But still put it on all the time.
