Okeechobee County, in South Central Florida,
is attempting to forestall a dangerous threat.

http://www.okeechobeeeoc.com/Annex Z.pdf

I think it behooves all public-spirited Stromtroopers to pitch in
and assist in this campaign of Civil Defense and Preparedness.

I will be busy until August, but I think we should schedule a
ride to Okeechobee. We can then assess the extent of the
threat and find out how we can participate in the merriment.

What do y'all think about this?

We may need to take a ride over there and check things out. I heard Uncle Larry's has a great Okeeburger!

Of course once the water gets back to 11 feet I will park the bike and go fishin'

Either way, if you go, let me know!

It just showed up in some search or other.

First the CDC, now this? Keith, how did you find that link?
Hey, that was six weeks ago. I am old, and don't remember
what I had for breakfast. I'm sorry, but I do not recall.

A distant relative of mine seems to be in the county government,
so I sent him a not of encouragement, which went like this:

subject Well done!

Dear Mr. Faulkner,

I applaud your plan to help Okeechobee survive a Zombie Attack.
The entire idea of asking people with a traditional problem to think in an imaginative way is terrific.

You will get lots of mail, positive and negative.
Please do not waste your time replying to me.

The town of Port Dover Ontario somehow became THE PLACE TO RIDE TO for motorcyclists,
every Friday the thirteenth. Perhaps your efforts will cause a similar reputation to attach to
Okeechobee, and probably nothing but good will come of it, should that happen.

I hope to ride again to Okeechobee this summer, and I will try to bring some friends.
Don't worry, because we are rational folks, who just happen to ride motorcycles.
With mufflers. And generally with helmets.

Now where did I put that stuff I unwound from those mummies?
We will have to be properly dressed, um swaddled, well, you know.

Right now, I am in Canada, and riding a small bike,
because I am too old to load and unload the Wee-Strom.

I'll be back at the start of August and schedule a ride then,
but to do that right, I need to visit Okeechobee first.

My guess is that someone took a standard emergency preparedness plan and inserted the words "zombie apocalypse" throughout as a joke.

Have a very Zombie Christmas, perhaps.

I feel somewhat chagrined about this. Okeechobee County provides us with this fine can of worms, and I haven't even pulled off the lid, let alone committed any mischief. I hope I can get off my duff and onto my bike and see what opportunities I can exploit here.

I will try to ride to Okeechobee and explore it ASAP.
Don't be fooled. Okeechobee is a significant city.
Maybe I can drop in on cousin Michael and get some advice ...

Keith,

It has been some time since I was in Okeechobee. Please let me know when you are going to make the trip.
It was really good to see you again at the C2C ride.

Talk to you soon. :hurray:

I'm off between Xmas and New Years. The Guzzi needs a good shake down. Let's schedule a ride.

I think I can find time between christmas and New Years too, but I hope its not as cold as the trip to St Augustine was last year. Pinkman and I were the only ones to complete it. I need to finish fixing the wiring first though.

Take your choice.

RodK, you have a good idea. Make that a GREAT idea.

I am busy most days of that week, but Monday and Thursday are open.
Please select one of those days, and we will accomplish Zombie Run One,
a preliminary exploration of Okeechobee County's defenses and at least
one of its restaurants.

I have acquired an impressive Zombie Warning sign,
so I believe our mounts will be safe while we are dining.

I wonder whether I should warn honorary cousin Michael of our visit.
If you have an opinion, please express it. I would be willing to buy
him lunch if the timing is suitable for that.

You may suggest a starting point and some landmarks to visit en route either
direction, but I suppose much of our travel will be via SR 70, faute de mieux.

Thanks for the notion.

OK how bout Monday? I've ridden around the lake on a bicycle. It was not exciting except there was a well kep Indian reservation north of Clewiston. Keith, what kind of zombie paraphenalie do I need?

Start from that Hess station on the SE corner of I-75 and SR 70 at 8 AM?

It's a date.

I can be there at 8:00am.Curt
So can I. I will bring some ideas about stuff to seek en route and back.
I hope others join us. The hour is a tad late for Clem, but maybe he can
make some allowances for us geezers.

I don't have much in the way of Zombie equipment, and Okeechobee's documentation offers little in the way of suggestions. I reckon we will have to wing it.

Here's a Zombie Xmas tree:
Lio Comic Strip, December 15, 2011 on GoComics.com

I suspect plenty of Ketchup would come in handy,
and a few kilometers of bandage material ...
