Over the past few days I rode nearly 200 kms on a gravel road that was washboard for nearly the entire way. On my return, I notice that there's a small bit of oil at the left side engine mounting bracket (see photo). I checked my engine oil level before leaving on this trip and it doesn't appear to have changed at all. I can't see oil anywhere on the engine behind the bracket. Bike is a 2015 dl650 exp.

Does anyone here know why there would be oil here?

Thanks.

If you do a search on this site you will find more information.

I have seen this before, the oil leaks from the inside of the motor and travels down the engine bolt that passes through the block.

If you look at a cutaway of the motor you can see where it all happens.

I think most just learn to live with it.

Mine has leaked from there for a very, very long time. Previous owner put a frame slider on it, so it looks like a sewer pipe on the inside. I don't worry about it.

That bolt goes through an oil passageway. Recheck torque. May need to replace the washer.
Thanks for the info -- I checked the bolt and it doesn't appear loose at all but I think you're correct about replacing the washer -- I'll give that a try. Appreciate the info.

Not an option but thanks.
