Odd tire size?

Riding a 2012 650DL/ABS. It’s time for a new rear tire. Both front and rear are Shinko 705’s. Currently the front tire on the bike is a 120/70R17 58H, it has a ton of tread left…but according to research and Shinko web site it should be a 110/80R19 59H. This will be my 3rd season on the bike and I’ve put on 6,000 miles myself. Total mileage is at 19,200. The bike handles very well. Question is, should I not be running the 120/70R 17 58H on the front?

Thanks for the feedback

I have the exact same bike. The OEM stock front wheel on these bikes is 19 inches, hence the 110/80R 19 designation. If your front tire is a 120/70R17, then you have a 17 inch front wheel...
….humm, very confusing. Can’t imagine why the previous owner would have put on a 17” front wheel? Any thoughts on that?
If they were a road only rider, it might be that the 17 inch wheel allows for a much wider choice of tire and can steer quicker too. That said, my stock set-up is a hoot anywhere I go. I put a Seat Concepts foam/cover on it and finally found pain-free riding, WOOHOO!
Kind of makes sense. I will look at my wheel to see if is actually a 17”. I would be very surprised if it is, can’t imagine Suzuki would make both a 17” and 19” wheel for that bike?
Put on a new rear and run the front. I always get two fronts to a rear with a Shinko.

The DL 650 VStrom's sister bike is the street SV 650, which is very similar, but is tuned for more sporty on road riding and carries a 17-inch wheel. As @KSRider650A said, a previous owner probably wanted quicker steering response and a wider tire selection. Your rear tire should be a 150/70R 17 Tubeless.
SV650 has a 17" front wheel.
Perhaps PO put one of those on?
That’s my plan, run the front as is with a new 150/70 R17 rear. Still going to see if the front wheel is a 17”, are there markings on it to know for sure?

Well the tire sidewall should be enough information. You can’t just put a 17” tire on a 19” rim. Post a picture of your bike, it should be pretty obvious which size front wheel you have.
Yeah, a 17" wheel is a very different animal and looks very different.

It's been done, but it's a fair bit of work, especially to make it look right.

Post a picture of the front and we'll be able to tell.

If that's what the PO was trying to accomplish, then the Shinko 705s don't make much sense.
Many apologies to all. I looked closer at my front tire and what I thought was a 58H is actually a 59H, also found the actual size of 110/80R19 on the sidewall, it was covered with dirt. Well now I feel stupid…but it’s great to know there are so many knowledgeable V-Stromer’s out there👍
