I am planning a two-up tour of Central and Western, VA for Saturday if anyone wants to join in.

1) NoVA to Charlottesville via mostly backroads (Nokesville Rd. to 29 to 15 to 522 to 615 to 20). Late Breakfast/Brunch in C-ville.
2) South to Scottsville via mostly backroads (29 to 708 to 20)
3) West to Wintergreen via Schuyler (626 to 6 to Rockfish river rd! and back to 6 and 151)
4) North on the BRP to Waynesboro (664 to BRP to 250)
5 250 West to the WV Border and Reddish Knob (250 to 42 to 257)
6) Early dinner in Harrisonburg (Calhoun's...mmmmm)
7) Twighlight tour up 11N to 211E and over the mountain :D
8) Warrenton for Ice Cream and 29/28 back to Nova

GPS is telling me 370 miles and 8.5 hours. With stops I'll estimate total travel time at 11-12 hrs. We're planning on departing at about 7:30am Should be good weather, roads, and food. Me and the Mrs. are psyched. We'd be happy to meet new faces if anyone's interested.

I'll probably be able meet up for some portion of this - but I do not have clearance yet.

Anyway - if you want something to make the trip "different", take your wife on a cruise...

One of the last two hand pulled ferries in the country is just outside Scottsville - it's fun, and it's free.

Take care,

Thanks Bob. I hope you can make it out for a bit.

Ironically, my plan was in fact to go down to the Ferry. Unfortunately, I doubt it is running this weekend. The river level is a bit below normal right now according to the James River Runner website.

I actually grew up outside of Scottsville ('81 to '88 ). I plan to roll by the old homestead for a quick glance. Anyway, I hope you get the clearance...we'd love to meet some more strommers. Any suggestions for a good breakfast/brunch spot in C'ville?

Thanks,
Christian

What kind of breakfast makes you happy? For the buffet side of life, you've got Golden Corral & The Wood Grill - both are good, and have more food than you can enjoy. Both are on Rt.29 on the Northbound side.

For the small place - The Tavern has the best sausage gravy & bisquits going (other stuff is good too), and since the students are gone, shouldn't be too busy.

Then there a Waffle House and a IHOP on Rt.29 also.

I assume you don't want to hear about Micky D's or BurgerWhop. :p

Take care,

Thanks. Is the Tavern that the place on the north end of the downtown mall?

Let me know if you want to meet up somewhere. I think we'll be down there around 10am for brunch and back on the bike around 11am or so.

The "tavern" is just South of the light where Barracks Rd & Emmet St. meet. (just stay on 29 South and do not jump on the 250/29 bypass - when you get to the traffic light at Barracks Rd., make a left and your first right into the parking lot - you'll see it)

My wife reminded me (read, smacked me on the head) that there is also Aunt Sarah's Pancake House up on Pantops (near the Rt. 250/Rt 64 intersection)

I'll PM you my cell number - I still do not know what the family schedule is for this weekend - but if I can make it, I'd like to get for a ride with ya.

Take care,

Bob,

Thanks for the 411, it is much appreciated. Unfortunatly, due to the impending monsoons tomorrow, this ride is going to be pushed back a week or so. The SO loves riding, but 12 hours in heavy rain is a bit too much of me to ask of her. I'll PM you when I figure out an alternative date.

Again, thanks for all the info and I hope I can get down there soon.

Regards,
Christian

No worries - since I do firework shows, once I get past the 4th of July it will be easier for me also.

Take care,

bump. I talked to the SO and consulted the weather gods and this ride is rescheduled for Sunday, July 2nd. Departing NoVA at around 7:30am with an ETA for the Charlottesville Area of around 10am.

With firework shows on the 30th, 1st and 4th - I do not think I'll be alive enough on the 2nd to come play. If that changes, I'll let you know.

Have a fun ride,

The plan is to hit C'ville at 10am, eat brunch at Cafe 1201 or the Bagel bakery on W. Main St., and hit the road at 11am. Might be meeting up with a R1200RT rider from the ST.N board there as well. Come on down. PM your cell number if you want me to call you when we hit the area.

Is that the place in downtown that has the big veranda/deck out front? I stopped in there last year and it made me want to go back?

Wish I could make it,,,,,,,
