Your brake will still work no matter the problem.
They will be just like old style brakes with no help from the ABS to stop a wheel locking up.
In very simple terms when the ABS system is activated it does not make your brakes work, it stops your brakes working by releasing braking pressure, it then applies that same pressure again, this happens over and over again until either you release brake pressure or the wheel starts rotating again.
Are you 100% sure it is the ABS, there are a number of things that move & make a noise when the ignition is turned on, there is the motor for the exhaust flapper valve and the valve that could make a noise, ABS systems are very sensitive and will normally show the light when a problem occurs.
