Anyone able to share their NMC experience with me? I am considering a (corrected) Petroglyphs-Tour in a few weeks! I know the pavement ends at some point from Wellington, and I have no fear of dirt, but is two-up a good idea, or is it too sandy/silty? I would hate to scare my wife away from future rides! I'm sure weather will be a dirt-road-factor, but that remains to be seen.

Anyways, I am contemplating a Sat morning ride to the area, maybe grab a room in Price or wellington or ?? and make an out and back ride the next day, then head home. Company is always welcome... I don't know which Saturday, possibly May25, or June 1st...

Thanks!

I have never ridden the canyon, but I have driven it many times in my 3/4 ton truck. Several trips included a passenger that was afraid his 2wd half-ton truck wouldn't make it. As of two years ago the road was rough and had several areas that were somewhat washed over with sand and mud. There can be some large puddles completely across the road after wet weather, and running water during rain. Side roads leading up to the plateaus can be even worse and have some sharp switchbacks. On top of all that there was plenty of oilfield traffic.

The canyon is gorgeous, and the petroglyphs are cool. If possible I would try to contact somebody with jurisdiction to get updated info before trying this 2-up.

Good luck.

Ooooo, I'm guessing you're referring to petroglyphs? Isn't that Ute or Fremont territory? Wish I could take you up on your invite and join you. Sounds like a blast!

I hope, hope, hope you're a picture-taker and that you'll post 'em, here, when you get back.

Okay. I just Googled it and now I remember reading about how the truck traffic dust is destroying the petroglyphs. Oh how so very lucky you are to live out that way and get to explore....on a VStrom, no less. I'm wicked envious!

Haha.. BabaAus! I did, in fact, mean petroglyphs! I just corrected someone the other day on the very same thing while talking to them about the trip, and now here I am doing the same thing!! (I have to remember to think twice-type once!)

OK, Ghost, that was the frank description I was hoping for! I think I'll take it in the Jeep first then consider a Strom trip based on what I find...

I'm not a picture-taker, so anyone who wants to see them should just join me for the ride (hint hint!! smiley-face icon)

If it happens later this summer maybe some of you will be available then?

A coworkers that still works the area says the roads have improved some in the last two years, but I would still try to ride it solo before subjecting a passenger to those roads.

I'm thinking of hitting NMC on the way home from the Pie run. Sunday noonish if anyone is in the area.
