New tires - cost data point

Just a data point to share. I removed the Shinko knobby tires off my salvage '22 1050XT project. I bought Michelin Road 5s front and rear for $396 before tax from Amazon. I removed the wheels and paid an indy $100 USD to mount and balance both.

An excellent tire. I have a pair on a GSX1300R with just under 9k mi. I might get another 2k out of the set.

I'd look for another "indy" as $100 to mount and balance wheels and tires you brought him off the bike is expensive.

If you are local to me, I'd have asked for case of beer. Heck even Cycle Gear is somethgin like $20 or $25 per wheel.

Cheers,

Thanks. Your wisdom is what is worth sharing. I checked my local Cycle Gear and RideNow. Total cost was around $70 higher for both. CG was $25 per wheel if you bought tires there. $50 if not. RideNow was $0 mount if you purchased the tires but they jacked up the tire price. I checked one other indy and they wanted $70 per wheel off bike.

FYI Cycle Gear owns Revzilla. Tires purchased online thru Revzilla count as in-store purchases at your local Cycle Gear, and usually means discounts for mounting/balancing, in my experience.

Good to know. I've usually bought tires online at CG, brought the wheels in for mounting and balance, about $35/wheel with old tire disposal fee, new valves etc. That reminds me, I have a set in the garage to change out for when the temps get above 55. Soon !

Actually; Comoto Holdings owns Revzilla and Cycle Gear. J & P Cycles too.

my local dealer gets $75/wheel from most customers who bring wheel and tire in, $50 if you but the tire from em,
however, I'm not most customers, I get charged hourly rate that is discounted, and I usually buy tires thru them, but not always, what I always do, is bring whole bike in, cause they are usually doing some other service. Pays to have a good relationship with dealer
