Well, I traded the R1150RS in a new DL1000, love it, can't get enough of it. Have done 900k's now. It took a little while to get used to the handlebars, I may still turn them back a little but I'll give it another month. Didn't think the wind buffeting was too bad untill I raised the screen to the highest level, then it was terrible so I'll set it back down to the lowest this weekend.
But yesterday I was riding home and there was this strange random crunching sound coming from the gearbox region. I could feel it through the foot pegs. At first it was about one crunch every couple of K's then the more I rode the worse it got.
Stopped and checked the chain and rear tyre and all was OK. Rode a bit further and it got louder, so loud that I had to stop and get the bike towed home. It looks like the rear wheel bearing has failed! It's due for the 1st service so I had it towed to the dealer today, I'll find out more tomorrow I guess when they take a look at it.
I'm glad it didn't fail on the freeway at high speed though.
Has anyone else had premature bearing failures?

Sounds like the bike was assembled incorrectly by the dealer(?). There are several important spacers on the rear wheel assembly including one inside the hub, between the bearings that is absolutely essential. Without it, the bearings will fail quite rapidly.

Well I picked up my Strom from the dealers today, had the 1st service and repaired the dodgy rear wheel bearing. They were as amazed as I was to see a wheel bearing fail like that, I guess I was just unlucky, or maybe lucky it didn't sieze up and toss me off. Anyway the bike is running sweet as now so I'm happy again. Oh and they cleaned it too, so that makes me even happier.
Got a call from Suzuki Australia today to advise that my "free" Tom Tom rider will be shipped out in 7 days time, it's good to get a new toy for my new toy. Has anybody else out there fitted one of these? If so was it easy, hard etc, would like to see a picture of one fitted if possible.
