On my Sena SMH-10 there is a foam wind cover for the microphone. Without it, way too noisy to be useful; with it, like talking to someone seated next to you. Pictures of your mic would help.

I saw two tiny arrows. They are exactly 180 deg symmetrical from each other, and both point towards the end of the mic, so that wouldn't tell me which side of the mic should point towards my mouth.Yes, that's how mine is also.
