Ok,
I had an opportunity to sit on the bikes again today - for some reason they didn't feel quite as high up as the last time I was on them (I was on an '07 today tho, so I'm not sure if the '08's are taller and I wasn't imagining it)

It may have just been that 1 bike, but it felt that the clutch on the 1000 was kinda tight - can those be adjusted to be a bit softer?

Nope. The 1000 has a hydraulic clutch and it is a good bit stiffer than the 650's mechanical clutch. You might be able to adjust the clutch lever for something more comfortable though.

damn, ok. Is it any softer with the engine running? (since I was pulling it with the engine off)

nope, but with that motor, I don't shift much anyway, you'll get used to it. My cruiser had a hydrolic clutch, I learned to really like it after a few miles.

Look - your legs are already growing longer in anticipation of buying the Vee. In time, your left forearm muscles will also evolve.

You can adjust the position of the clutch lever (front brake lever too) to suit your grip. The tension remains the same regardless of whether the engine's running or not. It's not terribly stiff. You'll get used to it.

Ok, in the same token, can you feel the friction zone as you are holding the clutch or no?
Yup. It's a nice clutch. I hang onto mine for at least an hour a day in stop and go and ride the friction zone. No problem.

And you never have to lubricate the cable.
