Wellllll... two new Bills proposed in the Georgia House, that would 1- permit lane splitting if you're overtaking a vehicle going no faster than 30mph (which is the point, if you're in traffic, anyway), and you're going no faster than 10mph faster than that vehicle; and 2- a Dead Red Bill that would allow us to go through red lights where the sensor isn't picking up the bike, and hasn't changed in 60 seconds. YES!!!

Common sense comes to Georgia...

Sounds wonderful. Here in Kentucky our lawmakers can't seem to get the idea.

For stoplights that I can't trigger, I presently use the defective stoplight rule in our laws but have to wait 3 minutes before proceeding with caution. I am glad to see a state address a problem that motorcycles have with traffic lights nationwide. Tennessee has addressed the traffic light problem (they can now treat a traffic light as a stop sign), now more states need to.

As to the lane splitting part of the bill, it only makes sense. Motorcycles can lane split safely, why not allow them to do so to reduce traffic congestion. California has shown it can be done safely.

Good moves, but...

Lane splitting/filtering isn't a motorcycle concern. It is a driver concern. Drivers need education--and enforcement--to allow filtering. The drivers must understand that they are not losing anything by allowing the motorcycles to move forward. There needs to be a strong law that prevents drivers from taking any action that prevents filtering, and law enforcement needs to enforce it. And, nail reckless riders who speed between lanes. Needless to say, take your side luggage off before filtering.
