Motorcycle monthly for May has an interesting article on the expected katana/GSX700T/recursion. Nestled in the article shows picture of a new DL1000 motor, considerably narrower than today it suggests. Looks like a different patent to the VVT version as it does not have the oil connections. The heads do look a bit smaller than images below.

They suggest this engine may be destined for a large v-twin sportster bike, aka tl1000 - but I will say this mag is usually wrong.

A smaller, lighter, narrower DL1K perhaps? Whichever, this engine is clearly still in development in some form and that makes me smile :)

Still has that oil filter front and lopsided. lol
Many bikes have the oil filter mounted to the front of the engine like the V-Stroms do, which my 07 1250 Bandit also does, and It's likely placed there to help cool the oil, and even though my 1250 Bandit is water cooled, the forward facing oil filter also has an oil cooler between it and the engine case that cooling system water flows through.
