Hi - just joined and posted message on Stromtrooper forum - new to this whole forum thing and don't do facebook - wasn't sure if I posted new member message in the right place - thought I would just make myself known...

I have had several bikes in the past and enjoyed them all - last year bought an '02 dl1000 which has been a blast...looking forward to meeting other Canadian riders in my area and to keep up to date on info for my bike...

Cheers,
Jake from Peterborough

Good stuff!

Welcome aboard Jake. Much snow in P'Boro? Lots up here in Midland area. I was hoping to get out for one ride each month during the winter....might miss January

snow in ptbo

Not much snow - the ice covered toboggan hill looks treacherous, but not much snow on the roads - I've been looking into tires because my dl1000 has heidenau k76 street tires on it which give little traction when off pavement - so I won't be trying out the roads for a while - hade a blast on Dec 24 though...
any tire recommendations? I'm looking at TKC80 or maybe kenda big blocks ($100 less per pair)

Wow, Forest Cop. A ride each month. What a concept for a Canadian.
I've nerver ridden my Vee in January, February or March.

welcome to the forum! I'm just outside Kingston.

Me neither Gord, as much as I'd love to go for a ride I just don't see the point in taking that much risk.

Welcome to the forum.

The TKCs and the Kendas are known to wear relatively fast. I'll trade a little off-road traction for longer wear so I don't have to change tires as frequently. I've got Heidenau K60 Scouts on now and it's time to replace the rear at about 14000 km, which I consider a long life. They are good on gravel but too slippery when it gets muddy. I'm ordering a Mitas E07 to replace it...supposed to be similar to the K60.

Good purchase!

Welcome to the forum, Jake.

There is a tradition in Ontario that I work hard to support.
On the first Sunday in May, a bunch of us show up at a gas station
near Barrie, and ride to Muskoka and swap lies over lunch.

Sometimes an old fogey from Florida brings fresh oranges ...

Anyway, spring will be along any month now, and maybe I will too.

Welcome to the forum. I'm from Trenton, just down the road. I usually manage to get the bike out every month, but last year? No way! I was out yesterday for a short 50km ride.
I just installed Mitas E-07s on my Wee. I like them so far on and off road, but I am not a very aggressive rider, to be honest.

Thanks for the tire info. I think I'm going to try the K60's - I like the K76's on the street and these look to be a much more aggressive off road pattern, and I like the idea of a higher mileage tire.
Keith - the May ride to Muskoka sounds like fun. (Usually by around March break I have hauled my bike out at least once so I should be up and runnung with new tires in early April) - If you keep the forum posted about it I just mike make it...
Cheers

Keith is that the bancroft ride you are talking about? I seem to remember talk of another ride last year but I couldn't make it because of a family commitment. It was an overnight ride though I thought.

K60 are pretty good and you should be able to get much more then 14000km out of them.

I'm just trying to set a date for Bancroft. Should have one in the next few weeks.

Welcome to the forum Jake. Keep an eye out there in Pbro for a yellow DL1000 which Art rides. Hope to see you at one of the gatherings. You might consider NEVA 2015 which won't be too far from you this year.
Safe riding,
DannyC.

Art's moving to Edmonton but also bought a 2013 (?) DL650 so you won't be seeing it unless someone local buys/bought it.

Oh no. That's a long ride from Edmonton to Bancroft or NEVA.
Thanks Tom.
Hi Danny.
Yes my wife and I make a big move this winter. Been in Edmonton just over 2 mouths now and thinks are going great. I bought a new 2014 DL650 in October. I really like it. I joined Alberta Dual Sport forum and did a 600 km gravel ride yesterday. Lot's of adventuring to do out here. That was a big part of the move. Plus a great job offer.
