Hi all,

Took my Vee out yesterday and the short ride started fine but when I arrived at my location and stopped, the cooling fan had come on. I used the kill switch to turn off the bike and I could hear the fan blades buzzing against something.

The bike only has 170 miles on it... Should it go to the dealer or is the fan hard to get to?

Issue two

When I started it up later in the day for he ride home it was very hard to start.. Took 6 or 7 tries and it seemed like it was not getting enough fuel. I waited for the fuel pump ti prime and though it was warm outside, the bike was a cold start.... On the ride home the bike stut down 1 time when I rolled off the throttle.. It has donel this a couple times in the past. Any ideas ?

Mark, before going to your dealer, make sure you don't have something simple going on with the fan. Like a leaf caught in it. As for the other issue, make sure your idle is at least 1100 rpm. Could be several things cause it to start hard and then die after running, but could just be the idle setting also.

If the idle speed is between 1100-1200, it's best but up 1100-1300 is the spec. In warmer weather, fuel vapor can reach the intakes when parked. Opening the throttle when cranking will compensate. If it doesn't start right away, Try opening the throttle until the engine starts firing.

Fan Noise

My 2009 DL1000 had the same fan noise you mentioned. The housing around the cooling fan had moved or warped enough to make contact with the blades when fan is running. Sounds horrible but is a minor issue. Had to remove cowling and secure the housing with a couple of electrical cable ties. Issue resolved.

Update

Well I took the Vee to the dealer Tuesday and did not hear back from them so I called today. Said there was some plastic rubbing the fan.

Ask about the hard start and the roll off dying and they said the know something is wrong, just do not know what it is. Said they were going to call Suzuki

Not feeling good about this

If it is stalling mostly after a long highway cruise, the TPS probably needs to be replaced.

Hi all

I have been checking on my bike over the last few days and was not very comfortable with what I was hearing. I was told the tech fixes the fan but he could not address the running issue. He said something was wrong but could not figure it out

Today I was told that the service mgr was looking at it and he adjusted the high idle and all was ok. I stopped by and looked at it and it started after 4 tries...

Is the high idle adjustment sound reasonable?

My 09 VEE

When I got the 09 I found it stalling a lot when I was slowing down to stop, but it was me rolling the throttle back against the stops too hard while braking. Once I got the feel for holding the bike with my legs while hard braking, the problem went away....

Up the idle to 1200rpm and ride it for 2,000 miles.

While it could be a problem I have found v-twins take a while to settle in before stabilising
