What's up with these new crosswalks? A bunch of big 2' x 8' painted stripes!

These will be so much fun on wet days. Apparently one of Villaraigosa's last great ideas.

Ours have beads sprinkled in the wet paint that reflect light and add traction.

Do you mean a zebra crossing like this?

I thought that this is a common design worldwide except at traffic lights. Wikipedia seems to indicate it is.

The reflective beads encased in paint are OK. The beads the workers slop around and let roll loose are like little ball bearings.

I do my best to do my turning sharply to be as upright as possible in the crosswalks anyway. It's also a good idea to avoid manhole covers when turning.
