new chain using factory chain/sprocket sizes, feels super tight

Front sprocket is 15T, rear 47T chain is 116 links including the master link, I've triple counted. these numbers are per my manual.
The chain adjusters are as for forward as they can go. It was challenging to seat the rear axle due to the tension from the chain.
I am able to observe about an inch of slack but it takes a lot of squeezing to get it to move that much.

Is this typical for a $100 price point chain? My plan is to ride it under 25mph around my block a bit to see how much it settles in.

Just curious on the communities take. Should it be super tight on install? I cannot introduce any more slack in the system.

What year is this? My 2008 wants 118 links, and I think some years want 120.

I would refrain from riding it if it's super tight, that would be a great way to destroy various bearings.

Yep, my 2007 650 is/was 118 links. I bought a stock length 120 and cut it to 118.

My 2022 650 specs say mine is 118 links
well shit. Thanks everybody for the input.

I have an 08. the manual i have says 116, insane. Looks like I'll need to splice in a new piece of chain, Cyclegear has nothing 525 in stock, hoping to find something local quick since I need the bike to make it to a wedding in Baja,
Suzuki lengthened the 650 swingarm in 2007 or 2008. Check your owners manual for the correct year.

Cycle Gear is now showing a 118 link 525 pitch chain only in stock. No personal experience with Vortex Chains, but it should get you to Baja and back at least.
Dennis Kirk has a D.I.D. chain & sprocket kit in stock.
Yup, swing arm lengthened in '07 for ABS pump. Don't ride it with a tight chain.

Thank you everybody for the info on the swingarm length. Definitely one of those things i didnt expect to be different but alas.

"local" Suzuki dealership had an X-ring chain in stock so we're back in action! Installed last night, looks and feels much better. The 116 link will have to wait till I'm back and can splice in an extra link; at least its not a total loss.
