Negotiations with dealer on a new vstrom

Hello! I plan to buy a 650 this weekend that I put a deposit down on. Out the door price I was quoted is about 1k over MSRP. Am I correct in assuming that I don’t have much negotiating power here and will just need to pay what they ask? I know they are hard to get and fly out of the showroom. TIA!

You are correct. I hope the price you were quoted includes shipping, document fees and sales tax.

I'm guessing the price they quoted you is with all on road costs factored in? MSRP is Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price and would not include this or other costs like delivery fees, etc.

Thanks! Yes it should include everything.
Around my parts, most dealers add, or try to add, in a ADM (Added Dealer Markup). When I bought my new 2020 1050xt in Feb 2022, I said I'll buy the bike, but no Eff'n way am I paying an ADM. I also said, is that the reason it's still sitting on floor after roughly 2 years? 🤣

Ensure that what you have been quoted is in fact the out-the-door price.

How are you gunna negotiate,or have a firm bottom line when you already gave a $1000.00 deposit?
Shouldn’t every thing be in there on your invoice.which is a contract to purchase?
I’m no lawyer by a long shot, but out the door is out the door.

Your negotiating position disappeared when you gave them money after they gave you a price.

I'm surprised at the price. I bought a 2022 earlier this year under MSRP price. I guess buying a bike in off season time helps with negotiations.

Hi, I just bought a new 2022 DL650XT black/blue here in Ohio for $1500 off MSRP .. they had two base models in white left at $1400 off. Not sure if I’m allowed to mention dealer name here but message me if you can’t find them . Good luck.
You can generally get a deal SOMEWHERE but it may mean a trip to pick up the bike. DL, I wouldn't call that a huge risk.

I brought my second hand low k's 1000 from an out of state dealer and had it shipped. Saved around 3k even with shipping, re-registration costs over buying locally. (That's Australia, not the US)
I did have the aggravation of a valve adjust to get it to run really well, but even if I had paid someone to do that it would have been worth it. Took the risk because DL's don't have many killing issues, I guessed the bike was problematic when I brought it (price) but was also very confident that whatever would be fixable.

Ducati,BMW, Guzzi - nope in the same situation. That's only an FYI.

Depending on what state..++.You'll have to pay Ad Valorem(Georgia).++
As stated above, once you gave them money, you have no ability to bargain. Treat this as a learning experience.

With the recent (small) decline in fuel prices, the end of the 2022 models, and Fall/Winter approaching, the bike buying frenzy of this summer seems over. If you look on Cycle Trader, you will see brand new 2022 DL650A prices from $7599 to $9499. A lot seem to be at $8904. The bottom end prices don't seem to be in one area of the country, either.

Granted, buying out of state can add extra costs for shipping, taxes, etc. But, IF I was buying a new bike and a dealer in FL had a real bargain, I might decide to fly down, buy it there and ride it home, taking the looong way! :D

Early Congrats on your new bike (y)...Vstrom650 is excellent choice...don't stress it over the price, enjoy the moment instead Life's Good isn't it?, even at full Msrp, you are getting "A Lot of bike per dollar"

P.S. once you close the deal and pay for the bike, go and visit some other bike forums (BMW, Triumph, Ducati, KTM etc) and once you see what people are paying for the GS's, Triumph's Explorer's, Multistrada's etc....you'll feel much better (guaranteed) about your purchase. Yes the above mentioned bikes are a class up from the strom650's, but they are NOT "three times" better bikes ;)

Enjoy the ride.Just wait & se how much panniers, & mounting racks cost! Not to enjoy your bike quality accessories are well worth it in the ease of installation & use.
See, you are already RIDING.
An XT Adv unit became available on Cycle Trader a month ago and I grabbed it.
$10,499 (the msrp), freight & prep $590, "doc/admin" fees $300, = $11,389.
Add your own state sales tax.
Incidentally, the Suzuki website says to add $440 destination charge and $150 freight (equals the $590).
