The local dealer has a used 2006 wee with 24,500 miles. There is no available service history. The bike looks as though it has not been down and is in good cosmetic condition.

A test ride (my first on a Vstrom of any kind) went fine...no obvious mechanical issues other than both the brake and clutch levers needed to be pulled all the way to the grips. This made for a weak front braking experience. The bike pulled strong, has no obvious leaks, just a moderate bar vibration at highway speeds.

The chain looks in dire need of lube, but everything else looked ok. Tires are about 50%. Asking Price is 4500, but could possible get it for around 4k. No farkles.

I'm super interested in the 2012, but would rather wait for some real owner's reports plus I really want a bike sooner. Just sold a KLR and am currently commuting on a 2006 Vespa GTS250 (super fun, but not near as comfortable at hwy speeds) I would consider trading in...

Any advice? Thanks in advance!!!

There aren't any available via private sale? I do not like buying vehicles from dealers unless I know they are honest folks. Unfortunately it has been my experience that most are just trying to make as much money as possible by introducing all sorts of bs to tack onto the OTD price.

The price does not seem too bad, especially since in my area, Wee's FS are scarce. However, the brake and clutch should not need to be pulled to the grip to work. They may just need to be adjusted.

I'd look around, cast a wider net to see what you can find.

Thanks for the reply...I've been looking within a 1000 mile radius and I've found a couple potentials, but when I add in the time off (lost income) and a flight it just doesn't add up...Have been very close to just buying a new one, but with the new changes.....I may just wait and get a 2012

There is another thread in the general Strom forum about someone getting a left-over 2011 or waiting for the 2012. It seems the general consensus is to get the tried and true 2011 rather than get the 2012 and have some first YM change issues.
