I moved to Virginia where there are inspection stickers, so can I see a couple pics of where they typically stick? I'd prefer to make a mount.

Well, not VA, but in NY they're typically stuck on the lower left fork leg, though I've noticed that some dealers started putting them on the upper left fork tube just below the top triple clamp. Not sure why since that's inside the fairing and not visible at all, but I'm assuming it's legit.

I'd like to avoid using the fork tubes if possible and mount it in a spot that doesn't get in the way. I've seen a few different options using small bolt-mounted plates, but in VA, what's legal? Does it just have to be visible?

Ah, here it is.

The decal issued to a motorcycle shall be affixed to the left front side of the cycle where it will be most visible after mounting. The decal may be placed on a plate on the left side where it will be most visible and securely fastened to the motorcycle for the purpose of displaying the decal.

Right from the VA state web site. Now that we have the settled, heres what I did for my military sticker..

Very cool. That is great info and looks nice and clean. I like the option of being able to move it if I add a light kit later.

I'm in VA, too, and that's where the dealer put my inspection stickers. I've had two different bikes inspected by Coleman Power Sports (in Falls Church VA) and in both cases they put the state sticker up top as noted above ("inside" the fairing). I figured that was legal, so I put my Arlington County sticker (yes - we get to buy TWO stickers!) in the same place on the other side. I got pulled over once and had to point out to the officer where the stickers were, but she just sort of shrugged. I was going to argue that that's where the state-approved motorcycle inspection station applied them, but it wasn't necessary. She was just happy to see that I had the stickers SOMEwhere.

(I got lucky - no speeding ticket because... it was my birthday! And I was very nice, which I'm sure goes a long way.)
