I need to find out how to change my DL 1000 handlebars..
I need bars with a higher rise and to move them closer back to my mid section

The standard bars cause me to lean too far forward...to much pressure on my elbows and wrists for touring.

I can get a riser bar, but I think I need more than that...

a different set of bars...I can get 7/8" bars, but I will probably also need to change the cables and the hoses...throttle, clutch, brakes, etc.

ANYONE had any experience changing bars and corresponding
hookups?

thanks

I have changed bars a couple of times, and it really isnt that hard. I would try some type of bar risers first, that may help. dirtly.com has some for about $35.00 or you can do what I am going to do. I bought extra top part that clamps on the bars. Turn your current ones upside down and get longer bolts from the hardware store.

Also you could just get some aftermarket bars. Possably some nice ape hangers.

Have considered the upside down clamp idea. Did you use oem parts or after market and did you get much difference concerning weight on wrists and arms etc.

Last year I put a set of Magura EX's on mine and although it was worlds better, it had me pulled forward a bit and made it very tough to stand on the pegs off road. Today I put some ProTaper Contour Raptor bend bars on and it is now perfect! Great to get on the pegs!

Just a thought.

I have the parts ordered, but they havent arrived yet. My last bike was a SV1000 and I put bars about an inch higher on them and it made a lot of diffrance, but I cant say it will happen with the next expermint. Also everyone is diffrent so my results may be diffrent from yours. I am 5'11" with a 32" inseam so I have a very long torso along with a screwed up back and neck.
