Hi NEPA Strommers. I live on Long Island (rider's purgatory) and spend most of my time riding around New England and upstate NY. In a couple of weeks I will be visiting a friend in Allentown. From there I think a ride through the Poconos up to Hancock, NY and then down 97 to Port Jervis would be nice. I live on two lane, secondary roads (no non paved roads) and I have as much time as I need to zig-zag. Any suggestions for roads in that area would be very much appreciated.

Riding along the Delaware starting around Yardley PA (across from Trenton, NJ) and heading north is a nice ride. The best way to get there from Allentown would be the PA Turnpike East to RT1 North, to 95 north, Exit 51, left at the end of the ramp, right at the first light, then left onto 32/River Road.

Yes, I see that a bit north rt32 seems to hook up with rt611 which goes along the river. Very nice. Any other recommendations through the mountains up to and north of 80 and north of 84 into Hancock?
Thanks for the tip, DGrav.

I started to plan my route. So far I'm leaving Quakertown (where my friend is) east on 313....then north on 563 to 611 into Easton. Then I veer off 611 and head straight north on state route 1009 into route 191 through Bangor and Stroudsburg....still on 191. North of Stroudsburg I veer off 191 and take 447 into Newfoundland where I pick up 191 again and take that into Hancock, NY. I prefer scenic mountain twisties and actually I would prefer to lengthen the route a bit, so if there's a few nice paved roads in the general area that I should incorporate into the ride, please suggest a couple.

I would avoid Easton and Stroudsburg - they're not big cities, but you'll hit lots of lights and traffic.

There's not really a good way to get accross the Lehigh Valley without some slab a/o traffic, stoplight-to-stoplight. ... that I've found, anyway.

Leaving Q town, 212/ 412 are more scenic than 313/ 563 - which are relatively flat, straight roads.

Between Easton and Stroudsburg, in the area bounded by Rt 33 to the West, the Delaware River to the East, I don't think there IS a bad road. Very farmy. Hilly next to the river. On the Jersey side hugging the Delaware is a nice trip, too.
I enjoy 191 North of Stroudsburg. Again, in the area between Stroudsburg, the Delaware River, Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton, and the NY line is very pretty. I don't think there are any "bad" roads there as long as you avoid the highways and cities.

Have fun, ride safe.
