I have a seat cushion from Wal-Mart that some Goldwing riders use. I put a one inch memory foam inside 1/2 in on the front and 1/2 in on the back side of the cushion. Cheap fix and works great until I send my seat to Diamond for an an overhaul.

Yes they do the ride in. They specialize in Goldwings using their own seat pan. I purchased my GL seat from them and it is awesome... I sent pics of me and the wife on the bike as well as height weight and special request. I talked with the owner and he built the seat himself.
On the Versys I shipped the seat to him since he does not build the seat and had him modify it, it came out great as well. I am sure he can do a job with the V-Strom. There again will probably wait until winter since I will send the seat off for 2-3 weeks.

A stock seat is available pretty cheap either here or on eBay...you could get the more worn one reworked, then resell the better looking stock seat when you get your new seat back, maybe keep it long enough to be sure you don't need any more mods.
