I am having hand surgery and will be off my bike for 10 weeks. Durring this down time i was going to install some extra led lights on my givi bags and the rear of the bike to increase my visability.
visibility is a huge need down here where i am in NC. Especially since i ride into work at 5 am.
my plan was to tap into the license plate light to power the 2 or 4 led strip lights on the rear of the bike.
I plan on using shrink tubing and silicone grease to waterproof the connections as well as a black rubber to secure any running wires.
As for the givi bags i wanted to turn the red reflectors into real constant on, brake lights and turn signals using sets of 2-3 led light strips stacked vertically.
i also am planning on making the connection between the bike and bags able to disconnect wita weatherproof caps so i can disconnect and stow the leads if i take the hard cases off. I am planning on tapping into the turn signal and break lights to power all of the leds.
If anyone has any suggestions ideas or warnings please feel free to drop on your experiance.

I've done some led lights on my luggage. My first ones were strips,They were not very bright. Another style of led strip light I bot was from superbrightled. I put these under my red plastic on the trunk, light up kinda nice with my brame lights. Next I got LED markers from the Flying J truck stop. 2 amber and 2 red, They are mounted on my side cased and are connect thru a 3prong plug to my brake/signal wires.
I'm still working on some extra lights for up front. My brainy solution is to use led flashlight bulbs and a resistor, have all this in a foglight housing.

Here are a couple of things that will make your life easier.

Rather than tracking down wires and tapping in, I'd suggest using Eastern Beaver's brake/tail/signal adapter. This will let you tap in to the factory connector which is back in the tail section of the motorcycle without having to cut anything, and it will give you access to the tail light, brake light, turn signals, and ground. You just unplug the factory connector and plug in the adapter.

He (Jim Davis, Mr. Eastern Beaver) also sells various connectors to keep your install tidy. Some are waterproof, but I didn't see any with weather caps for when they're not in use, but see below...

Also – You mentioned that you have Givi bags. Admore Lighting has various LED lighting kits custom-made to fit certain Givi bags. If you know what model Givi bags you have, you can see if they make a set for yours. They provide always-on running lights, brake light, and turn signals, (depending on the model) AND they come with their own weatherproof connectors for when you remove your bags.

Oh, and if you haven't already heard, most folks do NOT recommend using the frame as a ground. Better to run wires to a known ground (not really an issue if you're using the Eastern Beaver adapter; it will provide you with a ground wire).
