I've had some people ask about what's on my dash so I thought I'd make a post and explain it all.



First, the actual metal dashboard is an Auxiliary Shelf from Rick at Adventure Tech. I cut all my own holes for the gadgets.

The volt meter on the left is just a cheap one I got from Amazon. $6.89 plus shipping, can't beat that but I won't be surprised if it ever stops working.

The Gear Position Indicator on the right is a project someone on here came up with. It was my first electronics project and after fixing a couple mistakes I made, it works great.

The FuelBot (the big LCD display) is really amazing. Designed by a guy on the SV Forum, I was the first to put it on a V-Strom. It plugs into your speed sensor and taps into the 1st fuel injector and keeps track of how much fuel you use. It's super accurate and can display a bunch of info such as, distance to empty, % tank remaining, gallons remaining, avg mpg, miles. I had planned on putting one on my SV but sold the bike before I ever did. With the V-Strom having the same engine I knew it would work on one as well. It's nice to have that kind of info available since the V-Strom fuel gauge isn't the greatest. I can't wait to really start to use it when the weather gets nice.

The button on the left changes the FuelBot modes and the one on the right displays the temp on the GPI.

With the fuelbot, did you have to alter anything from the original SV rig? Thanks.

The software in the FuelBot had to be changed to account for the larger tank and different front wheel size. The install was exactly the same, although I didn't hook up the tach display. I was nervous that it would harm the tach, since its different from the SV, although I really have no evidence it would hurt it. In fact, I may just try it soon, as both the SV and the DL tachs have the same divisions.

After seeing this thread a while back, I was amazed by the possibilities with the fuelbot. After going back and forth on whether or not this was something I needed, I went ahead and just placed my order with TeeRiver.

My fuelbot won't ship out to me until tomorrow, but I am already looking into a waterproof enclosure for the LCD screen. I really like that you have yours mounted on the dash, and I think I am going to go that route myself. Out of curiosity, did you do anything to waterproof the lcd screen? I can't really tell from picture you have shown.

I was thinking about something like a waterproof power junction box, but I'm not really sure that would work with a dash. I may end up making a custom dash/mount to get it where I want it.

Anyhow, if you have any more pictures of how you mounted the lcd to the dash, I would appreciate it.

As a side note, did you ever end up hooking up the tach wire? I think the lcd is going to be the primary means of looking at the data for me, but I think the instantaneous mpg display on the tach is intriguing. I'm not sure if the novelty would wear off after a while, but it looks like a neat feature.

You did a killer job on the DIY Gear Position Indicator mount. Thank for sharing; loved seeing it!

I cut all the holes in the dash, then after I installed everything, I put a single large piece of clear packing tape over the whole thing. It pretty much water proofed it from the top side, and on the bottom side I covered any exposed connections with hot glue from a low temp hot glue gun. The LCD came enclosed in heat shrink plastic, but I cut the top half of it off so it would fit in the hole in the dash. I've been through quite a few rainstorms and everything is still working.

The bolt heads you see are what hold the lcd to the dash, 3 for the fuel bot lcd, and 2 each for the GPI and voltmeter. Don't tighten them too tight!
Haven't needed to take the dash apart yet, so I haven't hooked up the tach wire. I may do that when I put it in the house for winter storage.

I love the fuel bot. I don't even look at the stock V-Strom gauge anymore.
