Any recommendations on quality cinema here?

One of my favorites is "True Romance" I think tarrantino wrote the screenplay.
old movie, dark comedy with a body count, but the cast is impressive... Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, James Gandolfini, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Tom Sizemore, Chris Penn, Brad Pitt, etc...

Another favorite of mine is "Once upon a time in America" two versions, both worth watching...

Looking for some suggestions for "sleepers" from the past.

Hmm, I'm usually reluctant to recommend movies as I enjoy bad movies but anyway...

Last Man Standing - One of my favourite movies. Bruce Willis is an old school gangster bad ass playing two sides off against each other. Ridiculous action scenes but hugely enjoyable. Also has Christopher Walken!

Action Jackson - Carl Weathers is a bad ass cop who goes around beating the **** out of everyone. What's not to like? (not to be confused with the 2014 movie with the same title)

Brother - Japanese actor Beat Takeshi is a Yakuza gangster who travels to the U.S. He then beats the **** out of everyone. A quirky action movie that is refreshing when the Hollywood formula gets stale.

The Eiger Sanction - Clint Eastwood is a secret agent who climbs mountains when he is not beating the ****out of everyone. I'm not sure if this was a well known movie when it came out but it is very enjoyable, and is based on one of the strangest novels I have ever read. Good story.

Equilibrium - A strange, small budget movie with Christian Bale. Set in a future where emotion is forbidden, Bale tracks down people who are breaking the rules...and shoots the *** out of them. Sort of Dirty Harry meets 1984. The first 30 minutes may put you off but stick with it.

Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man - Don Johnson and Mickey Rourke. The leading actors go up against a corrupt bank and beat the **** out of everyone. I love this movie because of how stupid it is.

The Limey - Terrence Stamp plays an English gangster who travels to the U.S. and beats the **** out of everybody. Dark and brooding, it's a quality action flick.

Shogun Assassin - Originally a series of 6 Japanese films ("Lone Wolf and Cub") about a ronin and his son, this U.S. version dispenses with all the character building and story bull**** and condenses them all into a single film of non-stop relentless slaughter. If you like your films to be bathed in blood, this is the one for you as "Lone Wolf" literally slaughters the **** out of pretty much half of Japan in an orgy of death and destruction.

Soldier - Kurt Russell stars in this futuristic film in which he plays an out-dated super soldier who has been replaced by the new superior model. Will he be able to beat the **** out of everyone before the new soldiers beat the **** out of him...?

I hope there's something there that fits the bill :)

I'm dating some one a little younger (16 year age gap) so I got to rewatch some movies that had cultural impact

Office space
Matrix trilogy
Star Wars
The evil dead trilogy (it sucked but it's referenced in so much stuff)

If you liked true romance you might like reservoir dogs and pulp fiction.

If you like martial arts movies you should watch

IP Man

This is about the master who taught Bruce Lee and is loosely, did I say loosely, based on fact. The fight scenes are really good.

And as for Tombstone I trust you mean the one with Kurt Russell and not the one with Kevin Costner.

"Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific" should be required watching in every school in America at some point. Then again, my Grandparents were hiding in the subways in London with my Mother, at the time an infant, when the Nazis were launching V1's and V2's.
Most people today have no concept of the sacrifice of their generation. Not to get off on a rant...Sorry

BTW, appreciate the replies. I have seen most of the stuff listed, but always appreciate another perspective on what is worth watching.
