Johnny Racks

I have been lusting after a rack system for my DL. I know Johnny makes a great rack and so does Garrett at 2x2. I thought Johhny's system you could leave the rear whell in place and then just bungy the front whell to the frame.
I see all 3 of you have both wheels removed "maybe this is the older set up but not sure".

Was is stable?

PMK: go to Johnny Rack - Bicycle Racks for Motorcycles and you can see better pictures of the rack.

You can leave the rear wheel on the bicycle, or take it off and mount it next to the front wheel and bicycle. Doing that shortens up your overall length by a little bit. Nothing is bungee corded on with these racks, the wheel skewers clamp the wheels onto the rack.

As for stability, cross winds will blow you around a little more, but on a tall bike like this, you kind of expect that anyway. And I was amazed at being able to ride some fairly hairy 4wd roads fully loaded with no issues. This trip was a big eye-opener about the capability of this bike.

And yes, we rode the 401. That's a must-do on any Crested Butte visit!

I pinged them an email. My issue is I already have Givi topcase so I wanted to see if there was a way to have both. They responded promptly but said you can't have both..... oh well.

I thought from your pics that you guys had topcases too but it appears you don't.

Must have been a great trip. I'd really like to do some mountain biking in Crested Butte. Did you get to the MTB Hall of Fame?

Givi case & bike rack

PMK......

Try "Garrett" at 2x2 bike racks for motorcycles. I think his sysytem will let you mount the Givi plate along with the rack. You can't have both though it's either bike on board or bike rack off the bike and case mounted. He sells Givi cases to so that's a good sign that it would work for you.
