I never use this thing b/c I don't flash my brights at people (don't want them road-raging if I'm behind them, don't want them taking it as permission to "go ahead" if they're in turning in front of me).

Has anyone re-purposed the switch to do anything else?

I was thinking you could run it to the OE horn when you didn't want to Stebel someone? Or you could do something else with it? I don't know what?

I always thought it would be a convenient garage door opener button...

I tend to clip it with the wiper on my winter gloves while clutching. I know I'm not the first to have that problem either..

I thought of disabling it, but since it is in the same housing as the regular brights switch, I figure it is probably just has a mechanical link to the same electrical switch as the rocker, therefore not as easy to disable and possibly darned hard to repurpose. I could be wrong about that, though.

I'm gonna have another look at this tomorrow on the 08... I really want my garage door opener on it... I'd rather not have to put a new switch in just for that...

The flasher switch is not connected directly to the headlight hi/lo switch... They are two separate switches in the assembly.

R!

Since I do a lot of city riding, I use this trigger switch a lot. I use it as a "manual headlight modulator" when I'm approaching situations where it's imperative that people see me, like intersections, etc. I just flicker it rapidly, in an irregular pattern, like Morse Code. Irregular patterns make people notice you.

It hasn't "confused" anyone yet, they get the message that I'm trying to be more visible. I'm always prepared for them to be confused by it, though. IMO, the benefits outweigh the risks here in Baltimore.

Maybe someone brilliant will figure out a way to tie it to a GPS/Cellphone and hack into the city streetlight grid. Then we could use for a green light trigger. That would be worth doing!:p:p:p

If somebody gets that done please let me know.;)

It works the same way in the country when people pull up to side roads, I hit it several times to make sure they see me coming. It has saved my bacon several times. A fantastic feature I would like to see standard on all bikes.

To my understanding, it is standard in European releases (although someone from there would better relay such info). My triple-9 has this feature too, and I found that it's due to Ducati not really differentiating between Euro and US models that much (why bother, really).
After having it on 2 machines, I've found that I really like the trigger feature.

I tinkered around with this tonight on my '07. It's a solid red coming out of the switch housing. Neutral until you hit the trigger, then +12V. An orange/red is on the other side of the switch. Hope this helps anyone. I really like the GDO idea. Gonna play with that a bit i think.

For what it's worth, these ARE link to the brights switch. I was going to put a horn on it, but it activates with the brights.
