Hitting the road on May 6th to go into C. America. Want to know what spare parts YOU would take and WHERE you would buy.

I checked junk dealers in San Diego for foot pegs, shift and rear break levers w/o luck.

All this stuff is super expensive new. Would you shell out the $$$ for crash bars?

Definite yes on the crash bars. Think of them as insurance that you will be happy to never need. Add hand guards. They are not very expensive and I think they would save your levers in most falls.

The only part you may need to bring along with you is an oil filter depending on the number of miles you are traveling. I've had my Wee for 42,000 miles and have only done the basic maintenance.

For a month on the road I'm taking the following with me.

1. Oil Filter
2. Brake/clutch levers I think I just bought aftermarket cheap ones.
3. Front and Rear Sprocket. Chains are easy to find, sprockets aren't
4. Front and rear brakes as dirt/gravel roads eat them.

In my mind Crashbars are a must. If you are on dirt/gravel roads I believe you need a bash plate or atleast something to cover the oil filter to protect it.

As mentioned Handguards are good too to protect the levers.

I wouldn't worry about pegs, add a decent sized vice grip to your tools and it be used for a peg if you need one in a pinch. I don't know how many older Concours's I've seen with these :)

Or you could go as nuts as I did (look at my sig)

Sounds like we may encounter each other along the way ... I'm heading into Mexico April 30, and then heading down to Panama over 4 weeks...
I just changed my oil & filter (using synthetic), will likely change oil in Texas (I'm leaving from NJ, so 1800 miles to the border)... I'm bringing an extra filter with me and also a set of new Iridium plugs just in case...
I installed crash bars & skidplate (Picked up the Afrika set from Murph), and have the handguards installed as well...
Got a few tools in addition to factory toolkit (socket set, pliers, etc...). Chain tools, lube, etc...
I figure something is sure to happen where I'll need to locate parts along the way, but I can't carry a complete spare bike with me, so I'll just address it as it comes up...

I would also replace most of the tools in the Suzuki tool kit with good, quality versions of the same. Vice-grips is the miracle tool. I have a small vice-grip with a curved jaw. It takes up little room and can be used almost anywhere.

Yea a buddy of mine done the S. America thing and he ended up needed his spare sprocket so that is a must along with the crash bars. As far as the hand guards go get some acerbis or something like that b/c the oem will not protect your levers just your hands from flying rocks.
