I only have about 250 miles and two weeks on a new set, so I can't give a great review of the tires yet. They replaced a worn out set of Shinkos, and are much quieter and corner great. I have taken them through mountain twisties and up to 90mph on the freeway with no issues.
If you search the site you will see that some people prefer the original Tourances over the NEXT tires.
I am going that route "next", although I have been very happy with the multiple sets of Battlewings over the years. I have a rear EXP mounted right now, which the NEXT replaced. Very good reviews overall on the net, which is the reason I want to give them a try. The original Tourance is just OK in my mind, I much prefer the Shinko 705 for my riding style and habits.
Just went through a rear Next and have a front Next on that will be replaced in the next few weeks.
The rear was good in every way except wore a bit faster than the regular Tourance I normally use. I didn't see enough difference to justify using it again. Pretty much the same on highway, rain, snow (sucky in snow!), gravel as the regular Tourance.
I am putting a Next on the front again though. It turns in nicer and doesn't have the headshake the regular Tourance has. Pretty much the same in rain, highway, gravel, snow (Sucky in snow!) but more fun in the twisties. Wore much faster than the regular Tourance but I think worth it. (I generally find my front lasts almost double the rear but in this case probably 25 to 50% longer.)
(Much above is opinion as for the most part if a tire feels "right" to us it's a great tire otherwise it isn't.)
The Wee I just bought came with a brand new set of Tourance Next tires... even though the bike had only 3200 miles. Apparently the prior owner had money to burn and/or really didn't care for the OEM tires. (Thanks PO!)
Either way I'm not complaining. These things corner amazingly well, as mentioned by others on this thread. Be ready for some very quick turn-in. It feels like I have stopped using the handlebars and just reverted to using the force - as soon as I think about leaning the bike, it's already turning. Part of it may be that I switched from a Harley touring bike with a rear tire that was worn square. But still these things turn like ball bearings.
Haven't tried them on gravel yet - I suspect they will be only ok. But since most of my riding is on the highway, getting to and from the few dirt roads I will have the chance to ride - I think they will serve me well.
I had Tourance front and rear with the last set before i went with Michelin annakee 3's because most of my riding is on pavement but I do sometimes go on good to reasonable dirt roads but nothing major..(untill last weekend that is when i kissed the dirt coz my annakees were like riding on marbles.
I felt more confident on gravel roads with the Tourances and have toured extensively with the Tourances and will consider going back with the original Tourance tyre next time as I think the pavement performance was pretty reassuring also wet and dry. The front Tourances do see to get a bit doughy when they get about 75-80% worn and is not really recommended getting too much more out of them but my last set took me about 15,000kms front and 19,000 rear or about 9,000 & 13,000 mile respectively.
I feel the original Tourances are a pretty good touring and reassuring tyre with decent wear.
Have been using the Metzler Touranance for over a year front and rear
The tires at road psi loaded 38/40 did fine on Alaska haul road up & back from Deadhorse and on all roads on the trip plus they wear very well. Good tire & good value
I just got back from a 10,600 mile trip to Deadhorse Alaska using Metzler Tourances tires.
The tires at recommended loaded pressure performed well on the gravel haul road to/from Deadhorse on both dry and some wet road. Tires wear well good tire & good value
