I've been messing with the factory windshield and attachments on my '08 Wee--can't seem to find a magic combination. I have toyed with buying the Madstadt brackets, but I concur with a few others' opinion: those things look like knives, I can't imagine the additional damage they would cause if I went over the front and hit them with my legs.

Anyone aware of anybody building a similar bracket, but out of plastic or composite? Obviously it needs to be tough enough to handle the force of wind at 80 MPH (OK... 160 with an 80 MPH headwind), etc. I'm not sure if anyone makes something similar - if not, I may contact someone local who can do composite, and see if I can't come up with a marketable product.

Or am I just worrying needlessly?

Yup you are worrying needlessly, if you are flying over your handlebars and through or over your windshield.....you might have bigger things to worry about than a madstad bracket. Plastic or composite can really mess a body up too, so wear that gear when you ride if you are not already. Motorcycling can be dangerous, but try not to overthink things when it comes to being overly safety conscious. ;)

When I had my once in a lifetime "get off", I was launched over the Madstad windshield and brackets I didn't even come close to them. I wound up 30-40 feet down the road from point of impact laying on the ground on my back and still hanging on to the right handle bar with the right side of the windshield bracket and fairing smashed. Like Big B said wear the gear, and dress for that once in a lifetime wreck. I walked away with out a scratch and my gear intact. The Madstad windshield and brackets were the least of my problems. And to it's credit the bike although later totaled, was laying there still purring like nothing had happened. Still miss that bike. :crying2:

Thanks - I'm going to try the 1" of rubber grommets at the bottom of the factory brackets trick. If that doesn't put my head in "clear air," I'll order up the Madstadts.

Appreciate the feedback - now I can take all that mental energy and overthink some other problem (like how to get 60-degree weather in Salt Lake City in January)
