I have to agree with you in reference to your statement "Human Nature" with some of their systems however there were others that were great improvements over OEM in producing a superior ride and structural form. It's also my understanding that your statements in reference to patents are correct. Your "toad" comment however, I feel was very understated. Good but understated. You could have done better.Mark Stadnyk obtained multiple patents including Motorcycle and Windshield Mount System Patent No.: 7,458,626.
Patent No. 7,458,626 is expected to expire on March 6, 2026, unless it was terminated earlier due to non-payment of maintenance fees or extended via a Patent Term Adjustment (PTA).
Personally, I never used a Madstad bracket and early on thought it was a waste of money. But early on was was during his development and early years. Back then the only V-Stroms were Wee's and Vee's. 2004 and up bikes had horrible buffeting problems. However it could be solved by most people with a Givi D206 windscreen and a 1/2 stack of washers under the lower two windscreen carrier mounting points. The combination raised the windscreen just below eye level and brought the top back closer to the rider's head preventing break-up before the air had passed the rider's head.
- Type: Utility patent
- Filing Date: March 6, 2006
- Standard Term: 20 years from the earliest non-provisional filing date
- Expected Expiration: March 6, 2026
However, people bought them. A lot of them. To me it says more about human nature than anything else, but those who bought them might disagree.
Anyway, come March 6th, anyone can make their own version or copy.
