No. It is quite easy and well worth doing. Contact member Rick.

There are downsides, you'll lose lean angle is the main one, lack of ground clearance is actually less of a problem than that. I'm fairly short and have lowered a DL, in the end I reversed everything because FOR ME the trade-offs weren't worth it.

If you don't ride aggressively on road - not an issue. Offroad it was more a matter of slowing down and picking lines in a few places where I could charge through before lowering, it wasn't suddenly impossible.

Have yet to drag a peg on the Strom even lowered. Rick has good information on his lowering links.
You may need a different kickstand depending on how much the bike is lowered,

I do not recommend the Soupy's adjustable stand though due to cost, needing to add the "optional" foot and the low maximum height.
How far do you need to go.

Just doing the front first could be worth a try.

It's free and easy, just do one side at a time and all will be good.

If you do need to do the rear use Rick's stuff, just be warned when you have a look at all the strom stuff he builds you may spend more than you planned.

+1 on the free height adjustment by raising the fork tubes in the triple tree / yokes, Dropping the front
To save you the time in searching for the Adventuretech links, have a look at these How Much Raise/Lowering do I need? and Gen 1 and 2 DL650 and Gen 1 DL1000

Another thought is to remove the rubber bumpers under the seat. I leave the very front one by the gas tank in place as it helps me from sliding into the tank. You will loose about a half inch in effective height.

I bought a lowered 650 but it came with the original bones,i have short legs 30 inch,i got some rst boots has i needed some new ones anyhow i found a pair with quite thick soles,i then fitted the origial bones back to the bike and it was no different because i had a height advantage with the boots (no there not platforms)i did notice the original bones was a lot more thicker and well made than the aftermarket ones,so lowering the seat or trying some new boots could be better than changing the geometry of the bike.
