Loud tire howling at 50-55mph?

Unfortunately I have made several changes at once, and am quite confused by very loud howling noise at a specific speed range of 50-55mph.

These changes include:
1) New pads and bled brakes
2) New Shinko 705 tires (35PSI F/R), professionally balanced
3) Oil change + filter, so bottom crashplate removed and reattached
4) New chain/sprockets

Not quite sure what is up with the harmonics, but its pretty crazy how loud the howl is at that specific speed, and how quiet it is above and below. Anyone run into something like this before? I assume its the tires.

I had Shinkos before, albeit not the radials as now.

Quite a bunch of crap hanging on the bike if that helps:

Edit: Ugh, epic fail, I meant to post in the DL650 forum.

The Shinko radials do howl more than the bias. Try upping your pressures. I do 36-37F and 39-40R.

Are you sure it is tire noise?

I had a very similar noise on my 2006 DL650 at around the same speeds

Original generation DL650's had the speedo drive off of the front wheel. There is a sending unit on the left side that needs a shot of greese and when it runs dry it sounds like bearing noise or tire noise.

Something to consider.

Howl

I'm still on my first front Shinko 705 Radial but my second rear. I have a howl that starts when I reach 40 MPH and goes away above 50 MPH. I have always suspected it was tire noise, but I'm not 100% sure. I've also thought it might be some kind of natural harmonic in the fairing that's excited by the tires at that speed, as that's where the noise seems to be coming from. However, it's unlikely that the fairing on my Vee would act the same as on your Wee. Anyway, since it's been going on for a couple of years and I almost always wear earplugs that block the howl out, I quit being concerned. Sometimes ignorance is bliss???

Yep, definitely tyres. The same happened to me when I fitted a set of Metzeler Karoo 3's. Between 70 and 80 kph only, and only on seal - quite strange when you hit a patch of dirt on a sealed road.

I replaced my Trailwings with 705s and immediately heard the howl start just around 40 45MPH and be really noticeable between 50 - 60 MPH.

But they handle very well.

I am used to it now and it seems normal.
