Looking for a gently used Gen 1 DL1000 seat. eBay prices are bordering on what Onedai wants for a brand new seat so figured I'd check here.
I'm pretty tall so I've narrowed down my search to a DL1000 seat or may end up grabbing the Seat Concepts kit. I just don't want to spend $300+ on a new saddle with being new to riding, maybe after I've had a couple thousand miles under my belt.
There's another option if you want more height. On my DL650 I lifted the Seat Concepts foam when it sacked out and installed a slab of gel under it then stapled it all back down.
That's REALLY good because it's fixed the sacked out issue AND vastly improved comfort, that'll also work with stock foam but I tossed that when I went with seat concepts.
Not dissing SC, their foam lasted 80,000k's which was 4x what the stock foam lasted. And it was more comfortable.
The limit to which that trick will work is the amount of stretch you can get out of the vinyl, that said you can also buy new covers. I'd consider doing that even with a new seat concepts foam install now as there's usually plenty of overlap in the covers they provide and it will give you even more height with the firmer new foam.
Plan-B. Cheap, no stapling or messing around, Sit & Fly seat cover and toss a gel waffle seat pad (still in it's cover) under it. That's what my current 1000 is running, it's not as durable as slab gel under the foam but replacement gel pads are only $20 every 3 years or so and all in all it's as comfortable as the slab gel under foam trick.

A properly comfortable saddle will allow you to rack up those thousands of miles without fatigue or pain. It's so very much worth the expense.
