I apologize if I started a thread about this once before, I guess I can't remember for sure.

I have a huge 50 or 60L Givi top box that has served me well. However I'm thinking that something smaller would work as well the way I use it. And would eliminate some of the buffeting. I'm thinking maybe something half this size.

What's a good alternative? And I'm not thinking of exchanging the small top box for the Givi when doing a long cross country ride. I have the 8" Jessie bags that will carry 95% of what I need.
And the replacement doesn't need to be a Givi.
I was kind of hoping to find one at the "Big Motorcycle Show" :furious: in Chicago this past month.
But there wasn't anybody there with that kind of thing.

Thanks a million, JimSTer

The JC Whitney boxes have worked for me. Inexpensive too. There are some boxes at Home Depot for carrying tools that guys have pressed into action with satisfactory results.

Jim if you want smaller and are not worried about interchanging boxes try the MonoLock system. GIVI Monolock Cases Or if you want to permanently mount a box amazon has a lot of cheap boxes on the site. I had one from JC Whitney on my old Yamaha 350XT. before I sold it. Was around 40 bucks. It was around 29 or 30 liters. It came with a cheap mounting plate but I permanently affixed it to the bike.

+1, I have a friend from STOC that donated a small JCW box because he had no use for it at the time. It had a slight deformity I heated and fixed so I could mount it on the back of my 2013 A. It can be R & R'd like most of the others you buy now days. I have added LED brake light strip behind the reflector panel on the back, added a usb port inside for my tablet, added a rack from my old ST trunk on top and a store bag under the inside lid for what-have you, so they might be inexpensive but with the right mods you can spend enough cash to make up for that cheap bag.....:green_lol:

Sam's Club has Pelican Knock-offs for around $29.........dimensions "almost" matches the Pelican I have mounted on my 2008 Wee. I believe they call it an electronics carry case or something similar..........got mine for $19.95 plus tax, when they had them on sale.

Oops......duplicate post, for pics see this one as sidecases.........

I'm a big fan of the Shad SH33 top boxes. Have two.
About the smallest box made that holds a full face helmet. I bought both at a local scooter shop and they were less expensive then online. What I like about SHAD is I and use the box without having to lock it each time.

I've been touring on the CB500x ( which looks ridiculous with a top case ) with my sidecases and the Nelson -Rigg 20/27 expandible tank bag. Skipping the top case entirely. Lots of useful pockets and it's weather proof. Can use a hydration pack as well with it.
Just a thought as to another direction..

Harbor Freight also has some Pelican-esk boxes for very reasonable prices. Get you a GIVI adapter plate to bolt on the bottom and then easily switch between the steamer trunk and the day tripper.

I bought three of these. I'm going to hard-mount them to the wee. I'll post pictures when I fabricate some mounts and get them mounted. That is, if I'm not ashamed of the job I do.
If I remember correctly, I calculated (roughly) the interior capacity to be approx. 22 liters.

I too am looking at the smaller 22literish side cases like Pelican and a hard mount. Want to keep my butt narrow.

the Shad 23 L top load are really light and narrow and not expensive but the mount puts them out wide.
I'm sure a narrower mount could be done.

Going on 5 years with a Shad 33L top case on my '09 Wee....will fit a full-face helmet when parked or a large pizza or a 12 pack of beer with ice, works locked or unlocked and has been a trusted pillion backrest...what more do you need or want?
