I had plans to go dirt riding tomorrow but my other riders bailed out on me. I have the day off so I thought I'd try to make a day of it on my Strom. I'll be starting from the west side of Indy and don't really care which direction I go. I'd just like some entertaining roads and decent scenery. I thought about heading south to go through Brown county park but wasn't sure where to head after that or maybe incorporate it into the "bigger picture"

Suggestions???
Probably keep it under 300 miles as it will be my first ride of any distance on my Strom. I don't want to get too far from a soft seat if it pains my backsides like some others have experienced.

Thanks, Matt

That's a hell of a route. I have been on 229 between 52 and 70. I thought it was a pretty good road for a bike trip and had thought of incorporating it into my trip tomorrow. I'd like to get on 262 but not sure I want to be that far off the beaten path. I have always been an interstate traveler in my cage life. Never been much for the scenic routes. Trying to see if this is my kind of "thing" on two wheels.

Take 70 west to St. Rd. 39, go south to Martinsville. turn into Hoosier National Forest, take Old St. Rd. 37 to Bloomington, go east on 46 to Nashville, go through N-ville east to St. Rd. 135. Turn south and keep going until you come to Story, IN. take a break, take a look at a map and decide how far or long you want to go.

There are really no bad roads down that way!

Good luck and have fun!

FYI, the Story Inn has a nice selection of import brews if want to quench your thirst. :)

I ended up going down through Brown county but didn't know about heading south of 46 on old 135 through Story and beyond. One of the guys at work told me about it the next day. I ended up heading east out of the park. I ended up over around Brookville reservoir. I started heading home on 70 but had to get off and find a more entertaining road to get me home.
Next trip will include Story and points south. It's gonna have to warm up a bit first though.

Southern IN riding the best...

I live in Brownstown...and there is awesome riding down here if you guys are interested in coming down. I also have 160 acres of quiet wooded land if you guys want to camp out.

I really miss Brownstown. I used to run late models at the B-town speedway. How's that 160 acres for dirt biking? I may have to take a trip down that way one sunny day in the next few weeks to check out the back roads.

You should make the trip down to Terre Haute when they run modifieds...the track is 10 times better than what is was a few years ago. Plus the promoters love racing instead of money.

I've been trying the last 5 years to make a trip out to Putnamville where I started in modifieds. Always other things to do. I was thinking about heading out there last weekend while I was driving home from an RC heli fly-in near Gary but by the time I got home, I wasn't in the mood to drive another hour to watch the races. I ran at the Action track once back in the 90's. I don't really remember much about it though.

If we could all get our shit together we should meet for a 3-4 day weekend ride and map out every road south of Indy. There are some nice routes I found around Salem, French Lick, and some segments along the river, as well as the routes mentioned above and the Hoosier national forest.

There are a couple nice relatively inexpensive hotels in Salem and French lick or we could bed down at ARumphs place. I could possibly drag another Vee owner from Ft Wayne and another from Bloomington, if he rides anymore, (Cardfan are you there!?)

I would be glad to meet with another rider or two and show them around.

If you made it to Brookville and Brookville Reservoir, you just touched on some of the best riding in Indiana. SE and Southern Indiana has some great state routes that run through hilly landscape. It's like an extension of SW Ohio where I romp regularly.

I say lets do it. I'll even throw out a date of June 10th to the 13th or 14th. My wife will be out of town with the kids and I was planning on doing an extended ride. Was even thinking of Blue Ridge Parkway(any takers?), but if a local ride down South could get organized I'd be tempted. I just had a taste of 45,446,58,135 a month ago with Ancon and could do that all week long. So, anyone............?

Ride safe,
Kevin

Yea, you could "DRAG" me along since I haven't ridden much this year. It would be a nice get away weekend.

Yea, CardFan..........WHERE ARE YOU?!?!?!

Yea, I'm here and I still ride...though not as much as I'd like. It's been busy lately but that is ending and I plan on getting out more once the storms stop. I'd be up for some extended riding down south. Once you get here there aren't many 'bad' roads as you head south.

BTW...Congrats BoxerDog! I may stop in and see you guys later this month depending on when my closing is scheduled.

I'd be up for a group ride, maybe just a long day or a friday/saturday trip. I already have a commitment for the 12-14 of June though.

Great stuff down south!

I just finished a ride south going down 135 through Story to 58 (I think) to Bedford. Then linked to 450 over to 150 back through Orleans and then north to Indy. A trip further south to the river and Leavenworth would also be great.

A couple buddies and I are headed to the HNF area next weekend. We're coming from different areas so we're going to meet in Indy and then head south. We have the GPS track from the ADV ride earlier this month so we're defintely geeked. We were down there last year, only mountain biking instead of motor biking. Can't wait to visit story again.
