I'm not new to bikes but i'm new to the vstrom ... and i decided i'm done with sportbikes ... currently have a gsxr and just can't go very far on that thing without pain so i'm thinking vstrom for me ...

well i found one ... and here's the details ... good price?

2008 with low miles obviously don't know exact mileage ... only extras are hand guards and tank bra ... asking $5500 obo ... it's winter up here where i am so i would expect to get a little bit of a deal at the bare minimum ...

kbb doesn't give these bikes much value it seems , even when they are only a year old. somthing like 3800 trade in and 5400 retail value ... my ten year old gsxr almost matches that , well not quite but closer then it should be for the age/milleage

I was Strom shopping several weeks ago and was impressed that these bikes hold their value rather well -- such that private party sellers typically can get the kbb dealer pricing. Deals do come along, if infrequently, so it can be a waiting game. Farkles are another wrinkle that impacts pricing and is highly variable.

In this economy there are some motivated sellers, then there are those just testing the market. I suggest you make a reasonable offer, and let the seller think about it while you keep shopping. Many times the seller is prepared to lower his price only after he feels there won't be a quick sale.

At the kbb price, the bike should be pristine -- no drops, no off roading, maintenance kept current, good tires, etc. Exceptions make good points to negotiate from.

MSRP on a 2009 dl650 is 7499.00 plus associated dealer costs. If the bike is clean, with no damage, it sounds like a fair price. Don't let the bike get away because of a couple hundred dollars. You will enjoy it come spring, if it ever comes.

I bought a used '08 yellow w/ 2100 miles in Sep '08 for $5,500. It was in excellent shape and came w/ Road Gear soft luggage thrown in, otherwise it was bone-stock and still had 6 months on the factory warrantee.

Forget about kbb trade values; they're there to justify the dealer in giving you squat when you go to trade. The retail values are a better approximation, and in your case, looks close to what should be expected.

Good luck...hopefully sometime soon you'll be on your Wee...

thanks for the opinions .... well turns out it has a few more miles then i expected ... roughly 10,000 ... and depending on what i offer he would throw in a Sargent seat that he also has ... bike looks pretty much pristine condition ... i guess I'll be thinking for the next few days ... i wish it wasn't winter

Sounds like a good deal at 5,500, of course if he takes less that's even better.

Sounds like it being winter that $5000 including the Sargent would be a nice deal in New England and would not be an insulting offer. Presuming its already had tires replaced and sprockets are in good shape. It's worth whatever you and the seller can agree upon. IMHO

Get the Sargent.......even if you have to pay a couple hundred bucks extra for it......if you don't like it they are easy to sell.
