Hello,
I'm looking at a 2006 1000 (15k mi & new chain) and while test riding noticed some engine noise when accelerating thru the first couple of gears at the lower RPMs. Coming from my GS1135E that was smooth as silk I am hoping it's someting that can be fixed easy or is part o9f the beast. Thanks for any help. This seems like an awsome ride. I'm 6'2 290lb.

I have an 06 Vee and they are not as quiet mechanically as most I-4's but alot depends on how the bike is set up. Once the TBS is done and the fuel is programed properly they smooth out significantly in the lower rpm's which makes them much more usuable. I have ridden ones that were not set up properly and they ran like crap, made noise and vibrated alot more then mine. When all is adjusted and set up correctly they are really hard to beat. When mine idles it makes all kinds of mechanical noises compared to past bikes but it has been reliable as a hammer for 13K miles.

Below 3500 under load is not really a great place to be with these engines they perfer to run higher up. I like to cruise around 3700+, will let it get down around 2500 under light loads ( Down hill..) Six is an overdrive an is less forgiving then the other gears.
