Hi All,

I just turned over 12,000 km. (Bought end of July 06.)

Do any of you who live local to Toronto have a tool for syncing the carbs? I know it is easy to make but it would be easier to go for a drive to borrow one.

Thanks for the offer... I ended up making the tool as mentioned in a number of different spots. I'll give it a try tomorrow.. if it doesn't work I'll take you up on your offer.

Good job Tom. It should work. Its a pretty simple piece of equipment. I would have made one myself if I'd found out about it before I bought one. Yours should let you be even more accurate with your adjustments.

It was stupidly simple even for me. (I tend to overthink everything!) There are a ton of suggestions online on how to build them, and I basically did what was suggested.

I went to Canadian Tire and got 14 feet of 3/8" Clear Vacuum hose, two joiners to connect the hoses and some Cheap Transmission Fluid. I had some scrap particle board that was roughly the right size. I drilled some holes in it and used those zip ties to secure the hose. I also drilled a hole in the top of the wood and put a rope in there so I could hang it from my garage door track.

To do the actual sync, I followed the instructions here:

I went for a twenty minute ride before I did this so I could make sure it was plenty warm.

It was a bit fiddly. My wife has a very small ratchet set that includes small sockets and screwdriver bits. I found that the best to do the adjustment as I could approach the screw from beside it instead of from the top. That made things very simple. The screw is very sensitive.. do a minor adjustment, blip the throttle, and wait.

I had to take my son to soccer and haven't had a chance to test the results yet.. after we watch "24" and "Heroes" (Thank God for PVR's!!!) I'll got for a late night ride and check out the results.

Anyway, if any of you guys want to see the tool just let me know. It really is easy to make!

I really didn't want to see your tool but it is nice, It's the same size as mine. I put two stroke oil in my homemade one, I tried 90w gear oil in it but it was way too thick.

I really didn't want to see your tool but it is nice, It's the same size as mine. I put two stroke oil in my homemade one, I tried 90w gear oil in it but it was way too thick.

Heh I was teasing you, I got into the wings and beer last night. Not feeling too wonderful this morning.

Tranny fluid is pretty thin and would work well. The damn gear oil was so thick that it'd move but very slowly. It took me over 1/2 hour to synch the bike, with the 2 stroke oil it will take way less time since that stuff flows easily.

Hi Ian,

Maybe you should switch beer. Try something that tastes good even when it isn't frozen solid.

I think now that I have the extension tubes on that a sync should only take a few minutes of actual adjusting. The results seem very much worth the effort, as my Strom feels much smoother, especially at lower revs.
