Lesson learned!

Visor down, kids! Had to learn this the hard way. Hot day here in the frozen north so was enjoying the twisties and the breeze. Good times until the bee found my ear! Thankfully not a busy road but I sure couldn't get my helmet off fast enough. Whoever said slow is fast didn't have buzzing in his ear! Got the lid off, nearly broke my glasses and nose doing so and rode home. End of ride with lots of ice to bring down the swelling. Glad I am not allergic like my wife; would have killed her.

VISORS DOWN! Thus endeth the lesson.

One more reason I love my modular helmet. A quick flip and the little buggers are gone!

Thanks for the heads up, I’m allergic and have been cruising around with my visor up. Hate to have that happen to me.

Thanks!

Had a wasp find its way inside once with the visor closed. Watched him walk up the inside of the visor and I quickly flipped it up. This blew him back in my helmet…a quick stop followed and I pulled off the helmet and no stings.
I got nailed the same way some years back. It was a honeybee, so she only got one shot, and she made it count. I pulled over and managed to extract this from my temple:

I am allergic and have had several bee stings. I'm supposed to carry the eppie pen but never really do. Benadryl is a lot easier to carry and leave on the bikes. About 6 tablets will help a bunch with the reaction but can also make you rather drowsy quickly. Different bees have various amount of reaction for me. Stung twice last year. Three times on the Michigan UP trip the year before that. Visor down most of the time now days.

I have got pulled over and the stink eye from cops with the visor up. ;)

At least I haven't got busted for reckless doing wheelies yet.

Knock on wood.
I caught a hornet in the air intake of a bicycle helmet once while flying down a busy highway. Nailed me right in the forehead. Not fun.

I like to ride with my visor up.
I also am the worlds largest wasp/bee/flying beetle attractant.
I've been hit in the face and stung in the face, behind the ear and all over my torso so many times I've lost track. I've got hit so many times that I have 2 small "tattoos" on each cheekbone from previous collisions with those damnable insects.

I know I've posted about the spider that got under my wrap-around glasses while at speed before too.
My riding buddies sometimes call me the Wasp King.

In my case, a bee got under my helmet, with the visor closed, twice!

In both cases I was lucky, the bees gently waited for me to open the visor and escape.

It’s all fun and games till you get hit between the eyes by a June bug with a quarter in its pocket.

Been there, done that. I now keep the visor down or just cracked open.
I wonder how these guys get by? Scare the bugs away? Meals on wheels?

That's where the "drop down shade" (jetfighter style) comes handy, like my Schuberth C3 and Scorpion exo950, I prefer main clear visor up, drop down the shade and also wearing glasses.
However not completely bulletproof, surprisingly bugs will still find the way, a bee got in stung me in a chin, and every now and then a fly will get in and start crawling over my face . Also following cars is not recommended, all kinds of rocks flying straight to your face... most cagers here in Alberta are sympathetic towards motorcycles, when they see you behind they move to the shoulder, to let you pass easier... little do they know that by doing so they lift ALL of the sand, gravel and other debris, and sandblast you in the process

For the "visor up" and "open face or no helmet" crowd some bug shielding can be found in bycicle and paintball stores, in a form of breathable masks or wire mesh shields.

Noted. My visor is up 98% of the time when not on the interstate. So far I've been lucky, some bugs got in but not one with a stinger...

I did get stung in the small of my back after a hornet bounced off my chest and was sucked into my jacket by the low pressure that was holding it open for him.

When I was a teenager riding an old DT250 all over the mountain while smiling ear to ear, I did have a grasshopper jump across the road and smack me right in the teeth. Those things are juicy!

So, if she takes an impact on the forehead, won't that screw prevent the EMT's from removing her helmet?

I've been lucky so far. I ride with the visor cracked, but the Krios is known to have a rather large opening on its first detent. I guess the windshield is doing a good job
