I have a tail light modulator, so I converted all my light bulbs to LED. When I put the tail light bulbs in (1156) with the brakes depressed, my LEDs and modulator modulate. I'm thinking relay? Everything works like they're supposed when I press the brakes on, but when I release brakes rear tail lights and modulator modulate, it does not do with regular bulbs.

A tail (stop) light bulb is an 1157. Change the bulbs to the proper type, if in fact you are using 1156s in error.

Not all modulators are compatible with LEDs. Confirm that yours is. If not, use of regular (filament) bulbs, installation of a load equalizer, and/or replacement with an LED-specific modulator, may be necessary.
(Note that a load equalizer is usually only required when replacing original, filament-type 1156 turn signal bulbs with LEDs.)

Recheck the installation wiring. The proper wires (ID'd by color) must be tapped when a modulator is installed; there's no margin of error here.

Did it work correctly before you changed to LEDs?

There are 3 wires to the tail light: ground, brake light and running light. Could you have connected it to the running light rather than the brake light?

My bad...they're 1157s.

Yes everything worked fine with the regular bulbs with the modulator. Only when I put LEDs in it modulated in depressed position. I just put the regular bulbs back in.
