Hello from the Texas Gulf Coast, south of Houston.
I've had something with 2 wheels and an engine for 44 yrs. Currently have 4 motorcycles.

Been interested in these types of bikes for a good while. The past month I really started my research.
The biggest problem I'm having right now is being able to put my eyes, hands and ass on them, and even worse, there are none available to ride.

Believe I've narrowed my search to the latest models of the V Strom 1000 or the Tenere. I've yet to totally rule out the 650 V Strom.

I've test rode, test meaning about 10-15 minutes(not nearly enough in my mind), a 2012 DL650 and a 2015 BMW GS800.

Can not find a DL1000 to ride and none of the dealers in my area even have a Tenere.

I found a DL1000 last Friday but in order to ride it they wanted me to fill out this paperwork like I'm going to buy it. Put money down, go for a 25 mile or 25 minute ride and decide. Hell with that.
How's a man to know if wants the machine without riding one first.

Anyway, if there's any of y'all in the Houston area that have these bikes or could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

Cheers!

Check eBay. There are a lot of bikes for sale in Texas. I know it's a big state but most of them are from the large, central cities. You could likely get a decent test ride on one of those and slip them a 20 if you don't buy it.

Probably no used 2014 1000s for sale unless you find a repo. It's a really nice bike--I have one--Suzuki did a lot right. Why not go ahead with the paperwork you describe, but be sure you don't actually buy it before the test ride ends.

just hardheaded I reckon. I'm from the "my word and a handshake is gospel" crowd.
Don't care to be pushed into anything.
But it looks like that may be my only option, so far.

And, I have one of my bikes for sale and really need to sell it first to free up my cash. My old lady already shakes her head at me and 4 bikes, if I were to come home with a brand new one she might shake it so hard it would spin off. Then we'd have a mess.

They had a red 2014 1000 marked down to $10,599 "I believe".
