I only have one key and it is a hardware store key, not a Suzuki key. I called local dealer and the guy said they can't cut them off the VIN like car dealers do. He said that I would have to have the key number to get one made from Suzuki. Is this correct? This would mean that I am stuck with a key that doesn't work great and am limited to copies of it. I hope somebody can tell me something different. Please tell me this guy doesn't know what he is talking about.

A good lock smith can help you out. A good smith can look at you current key, and just by examining it, figure out why it does not work well. (Wear marks).

I have two original keys I've hardly used. I use the duplicate.

I once had some replacement keys made for my GSXR. a normal key blank worked to make a key to unlock the seat. It was too short to work the ignition however. Then the man making the keys realized that a Nissan type automotive ignition key blank was the similar profile to my original key blank and cut a successful key that worked the ignition and seat unlock.

So, try to find a place that has automotive key blanks. My story above was done at a local pharmacy/general store type place in Eastern North Carolina without key codes, etc.

keys by code

I have never used this guy but I am in the same boat. I mean I want a factory cut copy.

To find the key code, they say call the dealer that sold the bike first. Well, I bought my strom from a dealer but he has no idea who sold it first.
Still trying to track the key code down.

Has anybody called American Suzuki Motor Corp.'s Customer Service at 714-572-1490? Don't let the nice telephone clerk stop at telling you to contact your local dealer. Ask the clerk who you can talk to at American Suzuki Motor Corp. that can get you the key info. Also ask who you can harangue to get the 2011 V-Stroms into dealerships for sale soonest.
