I've ordered a center stand and the givi side racks (PL528)Here is my plan. I am going to ride into the city to my dealership and install the racks in the parking lot. I don't want to ride back with both items bungied to the backend. I know I wont be able to do the centerstand safely there but the racks look feasable.
Does anyone know what tools I'll need. I've been to the Givi website and looked at the PDF instructions and figured out some of it. Rachet and sockets to handle the stock rack, Allen keys (probably metric but I'll have both) and assorted wrenchesmetric and standard) including an Sasketchewan fitsall (crescent wrench for you uneducated types) I'm thinking most of the fasteners from Givi will be metric but not 100% sure)
The big question to owners of the Givi racks is this: Is it possible? Is everything going to fit without needing to do anything fancy like bending or adjusting the tubes or drilling out or enlarging holes?

Totally possible. Just assemble everything loosely, then once you have all the fastenings started tighten them all together (that is, tighten one a couple turns, then give its mate on the opposite side a couple turns, then move on to the next etc.).

I think installing the Givi racks is definitely doable in the parking lot as long as you have all the right size tools as listed in the instructions. No bending or drilling was required - just time to do it right. Just be sure it is daytime or the parking lot is very well lit so you can see where the dropped bolt rolls.

I did my installation in my garage and the only thing you will be missing is a cold beer from the house.

Very Doable...less than 20 minutes.It will take longer to unpackage the rack and dispose of the trash, than it will to install the rack...well that may be a bit of a stretch, but you get the idea.
Excellent fit! All Metric. I believe it was 10, 12 and 14 mm open end wrenches/sockets and 4 or 5 mm allen/hex key.
BTW put the foam anti vibration scuff/scratch pads on (the right side) before you tighten things up

I am mounting the rack on a Vee so does that mean the anti vibration scuff pads are on both sides?

Yes.

As you do the install, leave the bolts VERY loose. The two bolts under the fender art the critical ones.

Easy peazy. My six year old daughter did the bulk of the install of my Kappa racks, which are identical to Givis. In addition to the Saskatchewan hammer you're taking with you, take a ratchet, and 10mm through 14mm sockets with and an extender if you have one. Some of the bolts are easier to get at with a socket than a box wrench. Take some blue loctite as well.

got it done in about 15 minutes just like you guys said. only problem was the 2 bolts through the passenger footpeg plates. bloody things were standard 1/2 inch. Before I left I thought about throwing in a 1/2 socket but didn't so I snugged it up with my fitsall and a 14mm 6 point I luckily brought. fit was beautiful. Now I just have to find that thread about installing the centerstand and I'll be all set. You'd think that they would put install instruction in the box, seeing as its 3 times as big as it has to be.

The center stand is even easier. Use the "string tied to the wheel" trick to get the spring on. It is really helpful if you can borrow one of those rear wheel lifts the racing guys use, but you can have somebody roll the bike instead.
