IBA Daytona Party

The above describes the 2011 Gator 1000, a thousand-mile ride
from Jax to Jax via Key Largo, held on Thursday March 10.

No, I am not in this, but I will be riding part way with a gent
on a CBR-125R, a hot little machine from Honda. I own such
a bike, but I will be tagging along on my Wee-Strom from
Sarasota to the southern part of the ride, and then northward
toward Port St. Lucie. The IBA rider will continue to his reward,
and I will rub parts of my body & trudge home across the state.

Here are some details of the participant's bike:

As you can see, he is trying mighty hard to get a lot from a little.
Based on what he has already achieved with even less,
I expect this fellow to complete the course nobly.

Success!

The 125 rider completed the 1000-mile ride, in less than 24 hours.

I rode with him, in generally shabby weather, for almost 200 miles.

As one must do on a small motorcycle, he rode in a crouch, and his throttle was fully open much of the time. He rode very well, and kept close to or occasionally over the 70 MPH limit on I-75. On lesser roads, he was completely at home.

I hope to ride with him in his home province, Ontario. He surely
taught me a lot about equipping and riding a small motorcycle.

No 125, but the 250 is coming!

Correct. For some reason, Mr Honda sells these gems in Canada, England,
Israel, New Zealand, and many other countries, but not USA.

With some help from a friend in Ontario, I bought one there, and
imported it without a lot of trouble by paying some modest fees.

Here is a very busy thread about the CBR-250:
CBR 250R for 2011 coming to Canada - Honda CBR125R Community Forum

If you want to know more about this fine machine,
visit your friendly local Honda dealer. I understand
that the bikes will arrive in April, but recent turbulence
in Japan may affect that date, and perhaps the price???

After riding my Wee-Strom 418 miles on Thursday, I took my CBR-125R
for a brief ride on Friday. It seemed as if I was facing a strong headwind
whichever way I turned. Of course, I crouched down small, and waited
patiently for the valiant little engine to respond and my speed crept up.

I do not think I could maintain a crouch from San Diego to Jax, and I
wonder that Bob can do that for most of 50 hours. He is not much
younger than I am.

I bought the 125 just because it is fun. Similar to the Strom in some ways,
and different in others. All the controls are similar and similarly placed.
