Hello everybody,

I have Autocom Pro-Duo and started figuring out how to install it to my new bike (2005 DL650 V-Strom), but ran into a problem: where do I get the power for it?

I was thinking taking the power via the rear light, but I have not been able to find any info how to exactly do it. Any pointers?

If you put the Autocom under the seat, It's probably going to have a lot of buzz in the audio. Mine did. I keep it in the tank bag now and power the tankbag from the distribution block I put in the cowl.

For what it is worth, I put my Autocom Pro AVI under the seat and have no issues with electrical noise. When I was hooking it up I had it in a tank bag until all the setup (volume, etc) was done and then tried it under the seat expecting the electrical noise. Never had any so I left it there. When it was in the tank bag I had a SAE power connector running from the battery (which I used for hated gear in colder weather) and just plugged it in when I needed it.

I power it from a Blue Seas distribution block which is also located under the seat.

So if your fuse block is close to the battery, your Autocom is further back in the seat tray, yes? I've got the same unit you have and it's not a shielded box. Also, it's on an ABS model, which might account for the differences. I know another ABS guy who also has the buzz with his Autocom when it's under the seat.

You may not have trouble Randy. And you have to experiment with placement if you do. The installation dox even tell you this.

The Autocom box cover is diecast, but the box is plastic. Something as easy as flipping it over, or turning it 90 degrees might solve the problem. Then again, the two bikes I know about that have the buzz with the Autocom under the seat are ABS models.

As for the flashing, just a piece of it on the bottom of the seat tray might fix things.

Maybe that is what is happening.. my 06 of course is non-abs an you are right in that the fuseblock is closest to the battery.

I wonder if it would be that hard to put a shield under the tray?

I ran with my Autocom under the seat for a few months before moving it to a tank bag with quick disconnect power cables. When I first put it under the seat I had it as close to the battery as possible and it picked up rev noise. So I moved it to where the tool kit is/was and that solved the problem. I have power via the tail light. One of the Autocom execs was at my dealership and HE said you can simply take the positive wire and shove it in any fuse slot you want. (I guess you just place wire in slot and pinch it down with the fuse?). I have never heard of this being done and have not tried it, but he said it would work fine. Worth a try I guess. Enjoy the best communication system on the market.
