The same day I decide I am not going to buy a WeeStrom this year the dealer by me got an Orange one.
Now I just can't decide if I should pull the trigger.
Hopefully a previous or current KLR owner will throw in some advice.

I am 6"4 and 300lbs and I have a 2001 KLR 650 that I am completely satisfied with, but with around 50K miles on it it is getting a bit worn. For the most part I am never going off road with it anymore and I have been putting on a lot of interstate and highway miles on it. It is occasional long distance bike as well as my daily commuter. I have Touratech panniers which I use all the time, carrying a few spare parts, spare clothes, and a briefcase/laptop bag, also groceries and such on the way home, and I run a 3 gallon Aux fuel tank for the extended range.

The few things I would like to have on the KLR are, 1. Just a hair more power/better highway speed mileage, 2.Tubeless tires, 3.Enough electricity to run my jacket liner and aux lights.

The Wee looks like it will handle all that perfectly but I am afraid of the seat. My butt is completely comfortable on the Corbin bench seat on the KLR. My only concern with the Wee is the seating position, I want to be able to sit on the bike for 12 to 24 hours which I can do now on the KLR with my flat seat because I can shift all around. I see a number of seat solutions that people here love but I haven't seen a flat bench seat. My wife has a Honda Shadow that I don't ride because of the seat position, and I also have a Harley Springer that I use for two up with my daughter but I really am not completely comfortable on that either because of the dished out seat.

I also would like ABS which the bike at the dealer doesn't have, but that isn't a deal breaker because I won't know what I am missing.

Finally the Orange Wee is $6399 + $400 freight + $400 prep + $60 paperwork, the salesman said they may negotiate on the prep fee.

BMW GS800 is out because of price/no dealers by me.
KTM is out because of price/I don't need the off road capability.
KLR is in because of price and accessory availability and I know what the bike is.

Wee-Strom on the fence, only because of the long distance seat comfort concerns.

Somebody please give me a push.

The KLR is a great bike. I have owned two and just sold my last one a few months ago and bought a 650 V Strom. The biggest difference I find is that the Strom is so much smoother and powerful at cruising speeds. That is 55-70mph. It is far superior if most of your riding is street and highway. The KLR is much better off road. I take the Strom on graded forest roads no problem but the KLR would be better. The Strom to me is light years ahead of the KLR for street and highway. No comparison. I have a friend who is pretty heavy and he also rides a 650 Strom and travels all over the country. I put over 55,000 miles on a BMW 1200GS and would not trade the Strom for another GS. Too few dealers and way too much money. And the Strom is just as smooth and much easier to handle. Hope this helps.:)

You don't need a push, you need a bigger bike. I know because I am 6' 4", 255 lbs. I don't see how you can love a KLR it is a gutless, under suspensioned bike, especially with your weight. It is the pits on the road and in the dirt. It doesn't do anything well. I rode a friends new KLR just a couple of weeks ago, while he rode my KTM and I could not believe what a klunker it was.

Get the wee or the vee with a tall seat and you will not regret it. Your new name will be Strom's forever.

The stock DL650 seat is thin: that's why it is lower than the DL1000. You can see in this picture just how deeply sculpted the stock Suzuki DL650 seat is. BTW many V-Strom riders are large humans.



You can swap someone for a DL1000 seat which is 1" thicker. Or for $200 you can buy the Suzuki Tall Touring saddle, which is 1.5" high and much better padding. Or you can buy one of the many aftermarket seats. Sargent stocks them, it seems, others make-to-order.

Here is the tall touring - padding where you need it. Dealer might even throw it into the deal to move the bike - ask.

Don't hold back, tell me what you really think. :)

I pick up Wee tonight.

I will post more details and thank you's for everyone's advice after work.

I don't have much to compare it to but small dirt bikes but I love how confortable the Wee is. I rode mine for 8-10 hours two days in a row and it was extremely comfortable. It maybe be different for you, I am 6'1" 160lbs.
Also make sure that you don't pay a dime for those freight and assembly fees. I looked around and found a dealership that does not charge for it at all.Those charges are bogus. IMO if they can't give you the exact bike you want to your specifications (color, abs, and size) then walk away because there are other dealerships who will get it for you within a couple of days and for a better price.

Get the Wee. I bought one last month, but I am keeping my "useless, gutless, P.O.S." KLR. My KLR isn't exactly stock, but to say they don't do anything well is a silly, stereotypical statement.

I did get the Wee.
Its in addition to, and not a replacement for the KLR.:)
So far I feel like I got what I expected. It will work out well for a daily pot hole commuter, and if I get a throttle lock in time I will use it for 2 trips down to Atlanta at the end of the month. The KLR will be fine to make the trips but the Wee likes the interstate a little bit more.
