Adding GPS is interesting if its light weight and the battery actually goes 9 hours which is really short IMO.

Putting a camera, GPS, HUD and a battery can't be good for weight compared to the mirror type. Plus you will need speakers. Then the thing goes dead on your way home at night, hopefully it can be plugged in while riding? The mini-usb would probably not work well plugged in while riding.

I guess it has its place, but I lean towards the mirror designs for a KISS approach. This Skully would have to have a removable battery pack arrangement or a charge while you ride feature for me to consider it. But, it looks like something more to break to me. I want to try a mirror type, no batteries, no electronics!

But, these new rear view helmets probably won't fit my narrow head anyway..

 

It's a pretty nifty concept but sometimes I wonder If we don't become too reliant on these so called safety features. As motorcyclists we know that even with mirrors we have to be turning our heads to look and scanning ahead for hazards. The GPS and bluetooth is cool. I wonder if it has bike to bike communication too. Helmets are pricey enough and I can't imagine what the asking price would be for this!:yikes:

 

I would agree and would add that we're becoming too dependent on our gadgets. The integrated features are nifty, but I don't want to have to worry about my phone going off, GPS, and all of that other stuff in my field of vision while I'm riding. I know the techno crowd is going to disagree and it seems suited for their use I suppose.

As for price, I've found a few separate articles on them and the manufacturer is saying they are going to be in the $1000 range.

Hopefully the artist's rendering is inaccurate in that the rearview is 'opaque', that is, the front view can't be seen in that sector, which would be just plain stupid. To the extent that humans don't really multitask and the display is presumably always on, the distraction might be more dangerous than the information would be helpful. Of course, if the designer would include voice recognition so the rider could switch things on and off without removing the hands from the grips, that might be useful. Even then, the temptation to fiddle might well distract form the business at hand, which is sometimes staying alive in a hostile environment.
